Can a friend drive your car? Can you drive a friend's car? I am asking from the point of view of insurance incase there is an accident or damage to the car. Is it covered in most normal personal auto insurance policies in the US? (I know it works for rental car, where you rent the car in your name, and can get coverage)

I don't think they are insured Rental car companies take out special insurance policies where anyone can drive the car, but you most likely won't have that kind of insurance on your car

This came up while researching, but instead of trusting an online link, I'll check with you folks, and maybe just call the insurance company otherwise: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090322211014AAyjf6F
u can always call up ur insurance telling them wat sort of insurance u have and whether its applicable to anyone who drives ur car bla bla which is very simple and takes u 5 mins to find out the right info , instead of reading frm yahoo answers n asking folks n farmers here in ICF thereby wasting ur working hrs in this.. y do u make life so difficult..and comin up with threads like can a friend use my undies... will the folks like if i wear a red color string... :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Of course, anyone can drive your car with your permission even if they don't own a car and don't have insurance of their own. The reason why people are hesitant to let others drive is because in case of an accident it is your premium which is going to go up.

It's the car that is covered for comprehension/collision. ANybody can drive it with your permission. In case of a accident, the insurance will cover the costs. And you will be penalised with more premium/cancellation of insurance.

A friend of mine drove my car while I was overseas and hammered my new car :(( The car was covered by insurance and the claim was processed without any hassle. As Coffee rightly said it's the car that was insured not the driver. When you first sign up you are asked if others drive your car or is it just you. Ideally you would say it would be mostly you but there are discounts for insurance premiums if you insure your car only to be driven by you. That is a rare instance though. Not many use that clause and the insurance companies don't insist on you to insure for a sole driver because they want the premium to be high.

what an eye-opener..
:finger: You and your pal MM have no business other than single point agenda to visit posts of mine to just attack unnecessarily. In the last couple of days, this is the single agenda which you and MM have done. From now on: You folks stop doing this in my threads repeatedly. If you want to continue to abuse my threads, I'll gladly do the honors for each of your threads. Next time, you or MM do this in one my threads, I will retaliate from now on by derailing each and every thread you and MM create. Yes, just like you express your opinion that my thread or post is idiotic, and multiple times at that, similarly I will do the same in your threads, and multiple times too. Enjoy going forward, and I look forward to it. PS: And, in before you folks(zubi and MM) show the "I dont care" to me, I dont either, and I will just ensure I give it back to ya'll whatever you dish out - tit for tat
