Beware of Southee

This guy is good and dangerous when there is assistance. He's been drafted into the NZ squad for the 3rd test. On debut, he reduced England to 4 for 3, took a 5fer and made 77 from 40 balls. A few tests later, he reduced Australia to 23/3 on his way to a 4fer in his first test against OZ. On Friday, he will play his first test against India.

Who will he replace? Patel?

umm' date=' he played the second test[/quote'] He did, but he was defn underbowled in the first innings of the second Test and the commentators then cited that the side strain might be one of the cause, but his bowling in the second innings might have put that arguement to rest

It was silly not picking Southee in the first place. Just because he didn't bowl very well in ODIs (in fact not many bowlers can claim to have done well in ODIs) he wasn't picked for the test match. A young bowler like him should be given opportunities. O'Brien is one bowler (hails from Wellington) that has done extremely well in conditions not very suited for bowling given the gusty southerlies wind in Wellington. He''s so used to the conditions he can bowl at over 135k even bowling against the wind. I''d say NZ has potent bowling attack for Wellington. Surprisingly there is good weather predicted for the first 3-4 days of the test match but mid way through the test match the day light savings will kick in. The game is supposed to start at 11 am and after the 2nd day due to DST 11 am will mean 10 am start. If they start at 11 am after the DST kicks in there will be no sun light after 6 pm. Wonder what they are going to do about the start times post DST?

Most likely Franklin will make way for Southee and rightly so. Southee is no mug with the bat and despite all of Franklin's batting exploits at the FC level, I don't think there is too much to choose between them at international level - a 4/10 vs. a 6/10. On the other hand, Southee is a much much better bowler than Franklin and got jacked unfairly after the ODI series where pretty much every bowler got the hammering at some point. Moreover, his natural length is more suited to test matches and if it is going to be a typical Wellington surface then he will certainly be more than a handful given our batsman's proclivity to drive on the up. Looking forward to seeing him in action - his bowling in typical Wellington conditions will perhaps provide us our biggest test of the tour yet, specially if they bowl first.

I think the live telecast timing will remain the same, so, it wud be a 3.30 am IST start.what ever be the corresponding NZST . they have to ensure 90 overs are completed in a day. on a side note, the Kiwis complete their 90 overs in time so easily. Ponting shud learn from them instead of chaging the field twice a over and conducting a mini conference before every over when ever a partnership threatens to take the match away.
