Big players raise their level in big matches, some people play just for records, Great players some how raise their level on big occasion. Ricky is just one of greatest match winners ever stepped on the field, He has won everything possible from World cups to CTs. I will take him over sachin tendulkar every day of the week and twice on sunday.Sachin might have all the records but he will never be the match winner which is Ricky Ponting.

Utter thrash. Sachin has delivered more in finals and semi-finals than Ponting Like I have always said, Sachin has reached such a stage that his failure is remembered by poeple rather than common batsmen whose successes are remembered Remember 2007 WC Semis? Did Sahcin deliver or not? Did Sachin get a chance to play in the semis this time around? What if Aus had lost the last match and got kncoked out

Bah, SRT is really good in slip and outfielding, a better motivator and role model for the youngsters in the team and world, and a far better bowler than Punter, I don't see how Mr. :punter: is a better total package. Oh and besides one of them doesn't spit constantly on his palms and doesn't have a gutter mouth, so go figure.

Very successful compared to what? SRT was a bad captain but even he could have led the Aussie team to a few voctories himself

While I agree that captaincy is not everybody's cup of tea and it doesn't affect my respect towards him, :punter: is better package than SRT because he is successfully handling both job for years.

Allan Border,Mark Taylor,Steve Waugh all were great Australian captains. Yes like Pwnting had, a team with so many match winners. So what makes you feel Pwnting is a great captain? If anything he holds the dubious record of being the first Australian captain to lose two Ashes series!We all saw how his team turned in to an ordinary outfit in the absence of Warne,McGrath and Gilly.

this ICC trophy australia has just been lucky without any injuries or players missing .. also poyzz gifted them a match.. so i think in next few months ..ponting will have true test of his captaincy with this current team. i dont see anyone so dangerous in that side.. anyone can beat them now..

Australia has won 2 WC,record consecutive victories , 5-0 ashes in OZ etc during ricky's captaincy not forget two CT's . But more than that he is inspirational figure in his team ,he handled smooth transition when biggies retired , his on field captaincy is excellent..thats what counts if you are captain.

Agree with Bracken and Haddin. Plz .. Michael Clarke :haha:. This guy plays slower than Geoff boycott these days. He effectively lost couple of matches for Australia with his extremely pathetically slow batting. I think his strike rate against England in the recent series was 63 or something.

I have to say that Ponting is doing a good job in rebuilding the team.They have only Ponting,Lee,Clarke,Hussey from that great team.

Predictable. Ponting plays a fantastic knock and out come the usuals deriding Sachin instead of focussing of Ponting's batting. All this despite Sachin's much better performance in World Cups and tournament finals. Sure Sachin failed in the '99 must win game, the '03 final and the '07 game v Lanka. The usual bunch never tire of telling us that. But Ricky's failures are never ever discussed in such great detail or with such fervour and passion by the usuals. Ponting failed to take his team to 273..isn't that SRT is criticised for, for not staying till the end) 1999 World Cup Semi-Final - 37 2000 Champions Trophy QF - 46 chasing 266 (Lost, failed to take his team home) 2002 Champions Trophy SF - 3(22) (Lost) 2003 World Cup Semi-Final - 2 2004 Champions Trophy SF - 29 (Lost) 2006 Champions Trophy Final - 0 In 2003, we rode on an SRT wave to get to the final but he failed there which is what the usuals will focus upon.
