Sangakkara: Lara was better than Tendulkar

You're right - that's why Pakistan's adopted son could not find a spot even in an all time Australian XI selected by cricinfo panelists.
We all know that such squads and all time XI etc are nonsense. Wasn't Tendulkar like 28th in the all time ICC rankings which Indian almost decalred world war 3 over? Ponting is a great, he is comfortably the best batsman in worlc cricket right now and has been for at least 5 years. He should be recognised for his feats. Bad captain he may be, terrible role model and sportsman for sure, but as a batsman he is without any doubt the best of the current crop.

Ponting is a great' date=' he is comfortably the best batsman in worlc cricket right now [/quote'] Since you mentioned the ICC rankings, care to tell us why Ponting is ranked twelfth in the world by the ICC rankings if he is comfortably the best batsman in "worlc" cricket right now? A staggering 123 ratings points behind Gautam Gambhir, the man actually ranked the top batsman in the world right now.

Depends on who is selecting them. If it's someone like Benaud, I am all ears. The cricinfo panel was pretty good. Those ICC rankings say the highest point a batsman has reached in his career. The Indian media are fools that they don't understand what it means and start rambling.

Over the last 3 years, Ponting averages 40. Mediocre at best. Besides his 78 at Headingly and hundred at MCG, I can't think of a single innings of intent and significance he has played recently.
