The most impressive part looking at the scorecard is that he hit only 1 six and 18 fours. Can't wait to get some highlights from somewhere. Feel gutted for Karnataka to come so close and lose out, but in close matches Bombay usually prevails. Great final and hopefully will knock some sense for the next season to prepare better wickets.

The upcoming Duleep trophy and then possibly the one off tour game against SA is a golden chance for MP to score heavily and put more pressure on the selectors. On a diff note, how wonderful it will be if an India A team with Dhawan, Rahane, Badri, Pujara, Pandey, Kohli, Raina, Saha, Dhawal, Mithun, Irfan, Dinda, Tyagi, Ashwin etc could go on tours of Aus and SA and play 5-6 first class games against the A teams there.

That's why 1991 Final when they lost to Haryana by 2 runs makes it the best Ranji final in recent times. This one comes close second.

After watching him bat and field in IPL, I thought Pandey should have been picked to play the T20 WC, esp looking at how some of the other players were looking jaded in that IPL and how Pandey was looking fresh and confident Good to see him developing well. I hope that he would be in the Indian colors soon

That's one of the best catches I've seen in the outfield or close-in. He landed almost a body length in front of where he dived from and was full stretch when he held it. Most dives occur after the balls is in the fielders hands. That was some catch.

quite frankly I havent seen a batsmen like Pandey yet , so I really dont know what to expect . on off side his game is as classy as you can get , though does slog over covers once in a while , but his leg side game is quite ugly (mostly) ...exception is his KP like on drive on on leg ..whats strange is , when he plays those ugly slogs , it actually looks risk free ..very much dhoni like ..seems to me , he does it selectively . best thing going for him , is again lost of time for playing shots ...for ODI's though :two_thumbs_up:

Pandey will get his chance , but not at the cost of Kohli or Raina . one reason I wanted Dravid , Ganguly and Tendu out of the ODI team ...theres on slot for pandey

Ohh boy, undoubtedly this one is at par with any other catch of the century. Whether he grounded it or not (turned out to be valid) - he should be given credit going by sheer quality of attempt. Shows - fearlessness, desperation, anticipation and then execution ( I heard Indian outfields are pretty hard to dive on). Besides, I don't even know whether he has any examples to follow. Not sure whether its right to say - but I would allow him to fail in national side than wasting time a ranji level. But given the fearlessness he has shown - I am sure he can over come fear-of-failure in national side. And we should do it before Sachin / dravid retire from national side.

Hmm. Raina is a classical player while Pandey is an out and out slogger, who during the course of this season, has shown his durability in the FC format as well. Given the fact that Raina bats at No.6, which does his talent no justice, I believe we are better off having someone who can actually slog the team to a great finish. No.6 is anyways a slogger's position and I don't rate Raina as being a slogger. He takes a while to get his eye in and when we have people like Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey constantly banging on the door, we should open it and let someone step to the side. Raina might be settled but after Paaji makes a comeback, I don't really think Raina should be playing in the XI. He is not a quick scorer, takes time to settle and batting at no.6/7 does him and the team no good really.

I wouldn't like to see a young talented classical boy like him wasting his talent at No.6 and pray for a collapse so that he gets a chance to bat a few overs to show how good he is. Like I said, he takes time to settle in. He's not really a 'Bang Bang' player. Manish atm is. So an axe on an out-of-form and shape Yuvi, should do the trick and let Raina play in his suitable place, No.4 ! Manish or Robin can bat down the order. Everyone's happy at the end of the day.

I think many people here were misguided by their first impressions they had of this guy. I did not see his innings in the IPL, but apparently, it was full of across-the-line swipes and ugly mows. That may have led to a generally negative impression many posters here cultivated of Pandey. But since then, the guy has clearly shown that he's no mindless slogger. I have to be honest here and tell that I have not seen him bat at all, but for a twenty year old to play the kind of innings he did, in a match as big a Ranji trophy final against a very handy Bombay attack in bowler friendly conditions, he must certainly have a lot of class. The part of the innings that I liked the most was that he responded to a challenge with aggression and positive intent. We need only such type of cricketers in our national team. Looks like we have another extremely promising middle order bat in the making.
