Thats the reason for having those tapes, his reason for wearing them may be different, but that is why they're made. Original it was antiglare eye black which was used by a lot of NFL players. Maybe today its a fashion statement or a form of advertising, but it was originally made to reduce glare

One can tell they have been trying with all those flying kisses .. i wouldnt entirely blame them for searching alternate means of employment after the IPL snub and their current form.
