Bangalore: Rajasthan Royals cup of woes is overflowing when after a disastrous start to the tournament, the team and franchise suffered hefty monetary penalties. And the comprehensive win for the Bangalore Royal Challengers was dulled by the IPL disciplinary committees' decision to impose penalties. Shane Warne was fined $300,000 because his team was not able to score even 100 runs in the first innings, which ultimately led to the batting timeout in the second innings being canceled and only 10 overs being bowled in the second innings. Shilpa Shetty was fined $500,000 for her team's transgression and a warning issued to the owners that all their unspent money from players' auctions will be confiscated if anything like this is repeated. The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Lalit Modi and attended by Modi himself. Discussing the fines Modi said, "The fines would have been much higher but for some tight overs Rajasthan managed to bowl around the 6th-7th over, which at least ensured that the bowling time out was taken. Players could have suffered career ending bans otherwise". Anil Kumble and Praveen Kumar were also imposed penalties of $300,000 and $500,000 each. Speaking on the transgressions, Modi said, "Taking a hat-trick when the opposition is already in such a precarious situation is just not on. Anil, as a senior statesman of the game should have stepped in and demonstrated his leadership". Modi said, "We are not a draconian organization. We respect good cricket and in view of Damien Martyn's efforts to make sure his team was not bowled out before the first innings batting time out, he is the only team member from Rajasthan Royals to have escaped a fine. The rest have to pay $50,000 each and Morkel, Narwal, Kallis, and Pandey have been placed on probation for suspected collusion and match fixing with Zee TV". It is learned that Vijay Mallaya was also fined $200,000 after he decided to appeal the fine imposed on Praveen Kumar, though Mr. Modi refused to comment on this rumor.
