Lurker Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 ..So I am on my way to evening dinner with a lady friend of mine. Right infront of me is a SUV driving gallantly at 25mph in a 45 mph zone. It makes the sudden turns, swerving from one lane to the other so I just keep in my lane. Finally when I pass the SUV, I lean over to my lady friend and say - I would bet you 100$ the driver is a woman, chances are. True enough she is a woman, and is on the cellphone with large smile all over her face. Two things now: a) I get a sound verbal thrashing from my lady friend that I am a sexist :giggle: :giggle: (this must be the worse era in mankind for man, we can not say anything without being hammered). What do women keep talking about 24*7??? No seriously. You go to a supermarket, there they are on their cellphone. You drive by a bus stop, there they are on the cellphone. You see them in the gym on the treadmill talking on a cellphone. Men tend to do it too, but mostly work based. Chances are if you see a bluettooth headset in the ear its a man talking about work(again something I dislike by the way). But women, if they are alone they may very well be talking on the cellphone. So really I am intrigued womenkind, what do you keep talking about :hmmm::hmmm:
riya Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Not all women are phone junkies.I never used cell phone like that.So i really don't know about this thing.May be talking to various friends.

DomainK Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Not all women are phone junkies.I never used cell phone like that.So i really don't know about this thing.May be talking to various friends. It's not about the phone. A phone is just a modern day medium. It's about the habit of talking. Not even the habit, it's about the capacity.
h4te Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 my girls are either in the kitchen making me sammiches or in the bedroom making ****
vvvslaxman Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Me and wife hardly use 30 minutes every month. In India cell phone usage is too much.

Dhondy Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 They are talking about this hunk who lives in the gym, consumes whey protein by the gallon, and yet gets teary eyed over Gulzaar songs, still writes snail mail to his mum, and would not take a wife because he thinks his physique is still not perfect. Anything short of 80-20-80 is unacceptable.

b555 Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 If an untruth is repeated often enough, it can get a life of its own. How about this one: "Women speak 20,000 words each day, but men speak only 7000"? It fits in comfortably with all the clichés that television sit-coms and popular pseudo-psychology books spread about so effortlessly. You hear it all the time. And it has zero truth. Why do we believe so much rubbish? Mark Liberman, the professor of phonetics at the University of Pennsylvania, made it his personal duty to check this oft-quoted 'fact' for accuracy. He has worked back through time, trying to nail who said what, and when, and to whom, and why they said it. The first quoting of this factoid seems to date back to 1993, in James Dobson's book Love for a Lifetime. This book, full of Bible-based insights, claims (with absolutely no evidence) that women speak 50,000 words per day, while men can manage only 25,000. In that same year, a marriage counsellor, Gary Smalley, wrote a little pamphlet entitled 'Connecting with your husband', in which he wrote, "…the average male uses about 12,000 words per day…a woman…averages 25,000 words per day". One factor that immediately made me suspicious was that while the claim was the same (women speak more words than men), the number of words attributed to each gender was different. Disparities like this make me wonder where they get their data from. There was a genuine study in 1997 that actually counted the different words that the genders used. The researchers gave portable sound recorders to 75 females and 73 males, and "recorded linguistic transactions in which they were engaged during a period of two days". By including the people to whom their volunteers spoke, they further increased the numbers of speakers to 1097. They found that the words "most characteristic of male speech" in the now-larger group they surveyed were "f**king, er, the, yeah, aye, right, hundred, f**k". The women were a little more circumspect, because their most popular eight words were, "was she, her, said, n't, I, and, to, 'cos." full article

coffee_rules Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 The worst part is when they want to talk about what happened during the day, when a movie/game is going on. Can't they wait till the high speed action on a fast train is over?
