If you are able to separate sound technique from reaction speeds, he hasn't lost 'technique'. He's struggling because his reaction speeds and his composure is no longer what it used to be. It's not 'form', it's a rapid decline - which is to be expected at his age. The sooner he goes the better, but he is technically strong - it's just his arms and footwork doesn't move as fast as it used to.
