Will Suresh Raina turn out to be the next great Indian batsman ?

Not seen a more intense young Indian batter among the current crop. Have not seen the IPL $ eat into his hunger and desire to succeed in TEST MATCH cricket. Never seen him relaxed or complacent for a single match. Love his attitude. Raina, and a rejuvinated Yuvi would give me immense confidence of our middle order come the World CUp.

Raina and Sehwag are two guys who will make sure I watch Cricket even after Sachin retires... Raina is the best team player u can ever get...the way he celebrates others sucess is jus amazing... and don't go on his height.. this guy in my opinion is biggest striker of the ball right now.. and he does that coming 5 down when field is spreaded out around the park...so ya Raina indeed is million times better than ICF heartbreak kid Rohit Sharma and is legend in a making

if you consider Ganguly a Indian great, than sure yes ..imo there are lot of similarities between the two players , but in both formats Raina is a better batsmen overall ....I expect him to avg between 45-50 in tests & 40-45 in ODI"s .

Greatest of his ODI generation? Maybe - he has the potential, but we'll have to wait and see. But here patriot is talking abt 'great' in Test matches. That Raina still has a looong way to go before he can be considered 'great' in Tests. He needs to work on many aspects of his batting and master it for getting close to Test star in International world XI. Update: Re-reading, I find that Patriot has mixed ODI and Test in the OP. So, not sure which format he is talking abt?

Raina has shown tremendous growth as a cricketer and a desire to learn and succeed at the intl. level,since his comeback to side in kitply cup 2008,he has gone from strength to strength as an odi cricketer and now with maturity is becoming a finisher for team India,though still not a finished article in that regard ,so yes he has all the makings of a great odi batsman but I would be watching how he plays in SA later this year and our amprehensions about his short ball play would also be answered(though i dont see that as a major problem) and also to go with his batting,he is a one of the finest Indian fielders and very cunning limited overs bowlers,so he is a complete package ,just hope he keeps his focuss right,then nobody can stop him from being a great odi cricketer

Umm well 'Beter' is too early to say the lad has no performances in SA, ENG, AUS. Ganguly had problems with Short ball, So has Raina.

Still a little too early, but the way he has been playing, he surely seems headed that way.

Raina is a superb player. I hope he's working hard on sorting out the flaws in his game. When he will master the short ball, he's gonna be one of the greatest middle-order batsman we have produced in the decade.

lets see how he plays in SA; and if he comes out with respectable figures and does well in test cricket till end of 2011 then i would actually go ahead and make him VC i know most wont agree with me but the only batsman who i feel has the potential to be the next Indian batting great is Rohit Sharma
