maniac Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Raina will do well,From what I have seen,you need good agressive stroke makers to make some runs on fast bouncy pitches. Not taking anything away from Pujara but Raina should be given his chance ahead of pujara.Apart from the short ball I have seen Raina play some amazing shots against Fast bowlers. How can we say Pujara who is still unproven at this level and in overseas conditions is better than a consistent member of the squad with a decent record is beyond me. Raina earned hi chance,If he fails we can have Pujara in.

We know that any of the top 5 can be replaced if need be. The opposition wont get any advantage in case any of the other two walk in the team. Honestly, it wont matter much if any of these 3 plays at #6. I see CP more of #4 or #5 player in a long run. This is how I see the future Test team GG MVijay Badri VSehwag (He always wanted to bat here) CP SR This team will still win test matches if they get settled in next 3 years.

While he was in the test team b/w 2007 and 2009, Yuvraj made reasonable amount of significant contributions, but he could never really cement his place. He’d play a staggering innings like 164 against Pakistan in the 3rd test in 2007, only to falter miserably in Australia a series later. Are we going to a see a similar trend with Raina? He had a rousing start against Lanka, but didn’t do much against both Australia AND New Zealand on some pretty flat batting pitches. Maybe Dhoni was right and Raina was just feeling the effects of near non-stop cricket.

This is how I see the future batting lineup team: Gambhir Sehwag Pujara R Sharma (if he gets his act together) M Vijay i personally believe Vijay as more of a middle order player at test level because i dont think he's as good against the moving ball but i could be proved wrong!

Kohli's prowess as a batsman gets better as the length of the format increases i.e T20, ODI,Tests.

Kohli's prowess as a batsman gets better as the length of the format increases i.e T20, ODI,Tests.[/quote'] well at first glance you look at Kohli and you think: "gets his front pad accross the line of the ball too often and plays around his pad, and he goes hard at the ball and doesnt play with soft hands" so therefore you think he doesnt stand much chance at test cricket. But i have been following Kohli for a while and he has an excellent record abroad and in each series hes played at every level he usually struggles at first and then after that becomes the best player....this is probably due to his mental strength more than his talent. it also shows an ability to change when faced with new conditions. So yes i agree, he could possibly be a future test player.

Its ok Sriram. :icflove: We all make some strong statements from time to time. But, thats what friends are for :--D To be honest, this isnt a bad question at all. Pretty sure the team management is grappling at the moment with the prospect of playing Pujara instead of Raina. And its tough to say who would be the right choice. Agreed, very tough choice. The team will have to play Raina in Test-1. You just cant drop him suddenly. If he does well, then there is no question of replacing him. Even if he fails in Test-1, there is a 50% chance he will be played in Test-2 and they will evaluate after that. Very tough call. Pujara "appears" to be more of a 5-day format batsman than Raina. Its still very early stages, and this question will start to become clearer in mid to later part of 2011

Definately time to show him the door and get Pujara in.

We owe him another one of his zillionth chance for he proved his worth scoring a 100 on an Indian pitch. Boy, that was testing! [/rant] I have no idea why Murali Vijay or Che are warming the bench and Mr.I-am-awesome-at-bouncers playing Tests.
