Its rains for 3 days before the start of the game and Dhoni losses the toss. That's bad luck. The series already reminds me off the SA tour in 98 or something. Anyway, we are always slow starters and without any practice game, the only way we would end up not losing the series is if the 1st test is washed out. Hopefully, that still happens. I don't think any commentators stated the odds against the team batting first on pitches like this? Its really unfair for 1 team to have a big advantage just because they win the toss.

If they dont, then they are simply chokers and are crumbling under pressure. Our bowling should be capable of posing "some" threat to SA, and not let them get ahead too much. Its all about who turns up!! Nothing about skill, conditions or luck.

Are you saying that the excessive bounce and swing doesn't play a part? The wicket in test matches are extremely important and when it is like this test, it gives one team such a big disadvantage. Say what you will about the bombay wicket against Aus in 2004, atleast both teams had similar pitch out there. Here, there will be sunshine today and the pitch will get dryer and it will become easier to bat on. This pitch is like SL wickets, only the opposite; the 1st day is impossible to bat on.

And equally our bowlers should be also able to extract the same bounce and swing. We all knew what to expect, and we got exactly that. Yet we still failed. The SA bowlers were running in and putting the ball and let the ball do the talking. Indian bowlers will actually have to plan out their executions otherwise it will be ineffective.
Texy Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I have started to believe in commentator's curse now .... yesterday Mbangwe or Jackman.... one of them mentioned Dravid...solid as a rock...good foundation...recently scored 191...back with a bang...bla bla... and bam LBW shout upheld Again....commentator comments on how Laxman plays from deep within the crease and can flick the ball easily...will be hard to get rid of him and bam stumps get knocked over:((

Yesterday was a one off and probably wont happen for a long time again. Its not an excuse. Its just the way it is. A pitch like yesterday would have got all teams and batsmen with decent bowlers. The rest of the test will have bounce and swing but you don't seem to grasp the difference between erratic bounce Vs consistent bounce. Yeah, batsman should be able to counter and bowlers should be able to bowl, but in yesterdays pitch, the bowlers just need to (for example) try 20%..but our bowlers would need to try 70%. (Numbers pulled out of my ass) Its really unfair to expect the Indian bowlers to get SA for 150 or less playing on a dry pitch.

Im not expecting that, Im expecting to able to produce similar deliveries like the SA bowlers are doing. The pitch will help them and so will their fondness of these kind of wickets.

satishg Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I definitely do not think that it is a 135/9 day 1 wicket. As outsider had mentioned 250 would have been a par score on this wicket but having said that we needed a solid partnership to take us to that score. Gambhir was really softened up by Morkel and there was nothing much he could do. Dravid got a good one from Morkel as well. The wickets of SRT and VVS were disappointing. To be honest VVS missed a straight one and SRT was beaten by pace. That was the turning point as both of them looked good to stitch a decent partnership and bail us out of disastrous start. I do feel we have the firepower to get Saffers out under 250, and i am pretty confident that SA wont score more than 275 on this pitch. We should bat out of our skins to get back into this match and we do have the personnel to do that. No matter what we will still fight back in this game and i am really looking forward to that.
