deathmonger Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 There are 23 districts in AP. 10 of them are in Telanagana. Out of the 13 backward districts in AP' date=' 9 are in Telangana. The only one that is not is the Hyderabad district. That is how bad the [s']state condition of Telangana is. OK. That's why I was wondering why AP is so much behind other southern states in social indicators (literacy/HDI) etc. The indicators are almost like those in the Hindi heartland. The coastal parts would have living standards comparable to TN/Kerala I'm guessing?
ganeshran Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Coastal Andhra is extremely prosperous, areas like Rajahmundry etc. I think Rayalseema region is behind in development and plagued by naxalism.

coffee_rules Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Does Karnataka too have a laggard region like Telengana and Vidharba' date=' which are far less prosperous than the more prosperous coastal areas in Andhra/Maha?[/quote'] North Karnataka (Hubli Dharwad) people have some resentment from the south side as they have been left out in plans of progress. Esp the old telangana regions - Bidar, Gulbarga. It is not that much to the extent of politicians taking advantage of the divide. Belgaum district is disputed, lot of marathi speaking people wants to merge it to Maharashtra. It was more during 80s and now propbably that movement is lost. Coorgis act as though they from the different race.

Were the nizams very cruel/uncaring and didn't do any development or is it just a rubbish area geographically? Also, are Coorgis same as Tulu?
diga Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 After living and experiencing it in Bangalore for 3 years So whats your grouse? If you want sweet dishes, then try mysore pak or pheni in bangalore/ paper sweet/karachi biscuits in hyderabad

Were the nizams very cruel/uncaring and didn't do any development or is it just a rubbish area geographically? Also, are Coorgis same as Tulu? I think land itself is probably not so fertile for large scale cultivation, barren for most part. No big river/rainfall. It was ruled by Bahamani kingdom for a large part of 15-18th century. They are not known in history as great rulers. Probably milked the region to the last penny and sold out to Moghuls. They also plundered the region - evidence in Hampi where the temples are in ruins. Coorgis speak Coorgi a language having a mix of Kannada, Tulu and even Malayalam. Tulu is spoken in Mangalore region, again a mix of Konkani and Kannada. They both don't have any script. They are written in Kannada.

It is rich in natural resources, especially coal. The power generated using coal is exported to other states too. Yes, the land is not as fertile as coastal Andhra region though. But that alone should not be the reason for a region to be so backward.

coffee_rules Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Tulu is nothing to do with konkani. Thanks, I always thought it has some influence being from that region. A lot of konkani speakers live in Mangalore (probably christians from north) Tulu is older in it's roots.
Tiger80 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 @deepak deo South Indian food is the best and healthy as well Dosa Idli Sambhar Pulihora and many more South Indian food healthy? Sir Robert Mc Carrison did research on diets of various Indian races in 1920 -30 s and here are his results the best diet -- that of the Sikhs -- contains in abundance every element and complex needed for normal nutrition, the worst diet -- that of the Madrassi -- has many faults: it is excessively rich in carbohydrates, and deficient in suitable protein, mineral salts and vitamins. Presently we shall see that this difference in the nutritive value of these diets is reflected in the diseases from which the people of the north and south of India suffer. http://www.foodforhealthscotland.org/nutritionandnationalhealth.html :two_thumbs_up:

Sir Robert Mc Carrison did research on diets of various Indian races in 1920 -30 s and here are his results :two_thumbs_up: Punjabi food is healthy? lol sure, if you are going to work 10 hours a day doing strenuous labour, something that was probably true during the time the study was done. But if you are going to lead a sedentary lifestyle doing a desk job, food extra heavy in fats and oil is a sure-shot way to an early visit to a cardiologist. South Indian food isnt very healthy either - a very rice heavy diet is not good for the body in the least. But when it comes to use of oil and masala, South Indian food is much more lighter and easier to digest.

It was around the same time that another enlightened European, Adolf Hitler, published his scientific masterpiece called Mein Kampf, in which he laid down a race hierarchy in a very scientific manner. But we later found out that it was all hogwash. I would take Sir Robert McCarrison's claims with a pinch of salt.

Actually he rated diet of Hunza people as best , Sikhs as number second. His research is still used by various Nutrition websites to tell people what to eat. He even rated diet of Europeans poorly. Anyway meinkamph was never a scientific book rather than a biography of personal thoughts
