Most batsmen can handle pace, but the combination of swing and good pace is too much. Check out Steyn's wrist position/release closely. Quite good for swing/seam bowling. Swing coupled with control and accuracy is a lethal combination. We need more bowlers like him.

most of the champion players (barring few) are modest and focus on game and take it ball by ball. Extra points to Steyn. Hope he continues raising the standard of test cricket and keeping batsmen on their toes.

Not sure why is that needed. It's just a record that he holds. Waqar Younis and Lillee were close to him after those number of matches and Lillee had bowled in 88 innings (237 wickets), waqar in 82 innings (231 wickets).

Those are mighty impressive numbers whichever way you look at it!

You are underselling Akram, Steyn bowled on juicy pitches in SA where as Akram bowled on dead Pakistan pitches and still has same avg and marginally less strike rate but lot economy rate. Akram the test bowler can stand up to any bowler in the history of cricket.

I have picked Allan Donald, Shaun Pollock, Glenn McGrath, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Curtly Ambrose as representing the cream of the 90s pace bowling. I next picked out the periods in their careers when they had their best numbers. The strike-rates column is revealing in the extreme. When he started out in international cricket in December 2004, by his own admission and by general observation, he was talented but wayward. It took two years and a spell out of the team for Steyn Version 2.0 to emerge. From December 2006, he has been unstoppable.

:agree: They had luxury of playing Pollock, Ntini, Nel, Langveldt, etc. India dont that is the reason we have to play them to the dust. So many bowlers lost their way due to this. LOI cricket can destroy young bowlers easily.

They didn't even let him close to it! He was "saved" for Test matches and Dale Steyn had no issues with it.

Don't buy that. You can play and sensibly. You have a bowling coach, many advisors, can ask for rest, diet and training control. It's all there if you want to follow it.
