vaibhav_delhi Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Tendu, veeru, gg, kohli, yuvi, raina, dhoni, bhajji, zak, nehra, praveen Ishant, ojha, yusuf, rohit. On flat pitch, I wud play yusuf in place of dont know who.
The Outsider Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 If india finish 1st in their group' date=' where do they play the quarters and the semis??[/quote'] It doesn't matter. India will play their QF at Ahmedabad and SF at Mohali regardless of their standing due to the host team getting precedence of playing at home.
cowboysfan Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 my 11- Sachin sehwag gambhir Raina yuvraj dhoni yusuf bhajji Zak praveen kumar Nehra backups- Sreeshanth karthik Ashwin Kohli I think Ashwin gets the nod because of Dhoni and i have a feeling that he will work his way into the playing 11 if Yusuf doesnt perform in the Early stages.Nehra also looks out of sorts and i will keep him on a short leash and replace him Sreeshath if he flops.I also wouldnt be surprised if they didnt pick Karthik in the squad.

Think both these tracks are pretty flat esp mohali, yusuf could be a good bet. Its a problem of plenty, we already have awesome hitters in yuvi, dhoni n raina. Yusufs bowling may get him a slot on flat tracks.
spectre Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I dont understand why you guys pick Sreesanth in the squad. Have you seen his economy rate in ODIs
cowboysfan Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I dont understand why you guys pick Sreesanth in the squad. Have you seen his economy rate in ODIs Its pretty bad no doubt but I dont want munna anywhere near the WC squad, atleast Sreeshanth is good for 1 or 2 wickets which can be crucial.
Sachin=GOD Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I dont understand why you guys pick Sreesanth in the squad. Have you seen his economy rate in ODIs http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;spanmax1=13+Jan+2011;spanmin1=13+Jan+2009;spanval1=span;team=6;template=results;type=bowling nearly all our seamers have a bad economy rate in the last 2 years so why blame only Sreesanth?
cowboysfan Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Everybody is forgetting the injury factor,a lot of guys are nursing injuries and some of them are as fragile as glass.A lot can change in this south african series alone.
spectre Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 fair enough! but munnabhai can atleast keep it tight, this guy leaks runs like a gutter. He has had a couple of good matches recently, but i am actually scared to see him bowl for us in WC. I just wish Praveen, Zaheer and Nehra can hold their brittle bodies till the finals. Its pretty bad no doubt but I dont want munna anywhere near the WC squad' date='atleast Sreeshanth is good for 1 or 2 wickets which can be crucial.[/quote']
jf1gp_1 Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 futile discussion given that kartik is missing from SA squad cant see him making it to WC team both yusuf n rohit will get picked
vvvslaxman Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 futile discussion given that kartik is missing from SA squad cant see him making it to WC team both yusuf n rohit will get picked Karthik may not be second choice WK. Hope they keep Uthappa in the frame. He can be a backup wicket keeper.
jf1gp_1 Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Karthik may not be second choice WK. Hope they keep Uthappa in the frame. He can be a backup wicket keeper. uttapa was out as soon as kept him out of SA ODI series
Online Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 The following pick themselves, IMO : Openers : Sehwag, Tendulkar Middle Order : Gambhir, Yuvraj, Kohli, Raina Wicketkeeper : Dhoni Spinners : Harbhajan Pace Bowlers : Zaheer, Nehra, Praveen Kumar That leaves 4 spots - most likely one each for a : 1. Backup spinner 2. Backup pace bowler 3. Backup wicketkeeper who can double up as a batsman 4. Backup batsman/all rounder 1. For the spinner, there are two main contenders - Ashwin and Ojha. Ojha has more international experience and turns the ball the other way from Harbhajan. Ashwin has proved to be a good bowler in PP overs and that would prove useful if India play 2 spinners in a match. I would pick Ashwin. 2. The main contenders for the pace bowling spot seem to be Sreesanth, Munaf, and Ishant. All three are rather ordinary, but then so are the ones in the main squad. Sreesanth is usually terrible in ODIs in India, and Ishant just looks horrible. The least of the evils seems to be Munaf for me. 3. The contenders here seem to be Karthik, Parthiv, and Saha. Saha, while the best keeper is not up to the mark with his batting, which rules him out. Parthiv can only bat up the order. Karthik, with his versatility would be my pick. He can open as well as play the role of a finisher in the lower order. Is a very good ground fielder as well, and if need be can play as a specialist batsman. 4. Yusuf Pathan, Rohit Sharma, Jadeja, and Vijay seem to be the main contenders here. Jadeja seems to be out though because he did not make it to South Africa, and Vijay has not done anything in ODIs or even international T20s to justify selection. Rohit and Yusuf look to be in a two way battle. I would pick Yusuf, unless Rohit is able to turn in some dramatic performances in the remaining series. In Indian conditions, he can be devastating at number 7. He probably won't be able to hack it against a good attack, but there aren't that many in world cricket. Spot on. Agree completely but not convinced about Nehra. He is there because TINA
Bumper Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Yuvraj's form is worrying. If he does not get back in form, its bye bye world cup for India. I'd play Bhajji over Ashwin because of his experience and batting skills. Yusuf Pathan while certainly valuable, will not make it to this squad unless some one gets injured. Even then playing him as the 7th batsman is a risk. I think India needs to score 320ish each time they go out to bat to win.
zen Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I would start out with the X1 below: Sachin Sehwag GG Kohli Raina Yuvi Dhoni Ashwin PK Zak Munaf Reserves: Bhajji Nehra YP Uthappa (also functions as the reserve WK)
Sooda Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Tendulkar Sehwag Ganguly Dravid Azharuddin Yuvraj Dhoni © Kapil Dev Kumble Srinath Zaheer Khan Kirmani Harbhajan Singh Gambhir Agarkar
Watson87 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 My squad is the same as Outsider Paaji's squad.
Zelig Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Tendulkar Sehwag Ganguly Dravid Azharuddin Yuvraj Dhoni © Kapil Dev Kumble Srinath Zaheer Khan Kirmani Harbhajan Singh Gambhir Agarkar You've been doing a lot of these All Time Best Squads BS, I guess :--D
Mariyam Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 My starting XI for the WC: Sehwag Gambhir Tendulkar Yuvraj Raina Dhoni Yusuf Pathan Harbhajjan Singh Zaheer Sreesanth Nehra 12th Man Praveen Kumar
jf1gp_1 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 if ashwin has to start over bhaji then my exception from ashwin will be the same as that from bhaji. a poor performance of ashwin cannot be dismissed as he is a rookie , you cant use such an excuse not in WC. For me bhaji is a must not that i dont think ashwin cant do the job maybe he can but cant risk that in WC
