zen Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 but if he is to bat in the team in the World Cup then it will be at no 6 so thats the stats which are relevant in this context. It's not. Because you are implying that he will automatically score if he is batting at 6. If that were the case, then today, Raina batted at 6 and he would have done well based on the stat that you provided. But he performed, based on how is overall form was :winky:

Ranjha Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 but the player who may take his place in the team (Yuvi) has not performed with the bat at all in the recent past so he does not deserve a place in the batting order. Look ar yuvis bowling performances and he scored a recent 50 compared to Raina...what will also be imp is yuvis experence from previous worldcups.
pensionplan Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 but the player who may take his place in the team (Yuvi) has not performed with the bat at all in the recent past so he does not deserve a place in the batting order.Starting March 1' date=' 2010 among the entire batting lineup Tendulkar has the lowest batting average which is [b']15.5. Should he be replaced?
zen Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 but the player who may take his place in the team (Yuvi) has not performed with the bat at all in the recent past so he does not deserve a place in the batting order. Surprisingly both of them are avg 28 with the bat in the last 12 months! Neither has an edge over the other. If you bring out batting at #6 stats for Raina (which I think are irrelevant as I said in my previous posts), someone could pull out PT bowling usefulness for Yuvi (which I think could be a factor as Ind usually goes in with 4 regular bowlers). And this is what makes it a tough call for the management. If guys like Sehwag, YP and Kohli can chip in too with the ball then probably Raina in Indian conditions is not a bad option at 6! As you can see there are a lot of factors that should be considered and which is why the team management has its work cut out for them. In my book, neither Yuvi nor Raina should be guaranteed of a place in the 11.
Fontaine Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I have to say Raina must make way. Yuvi has had a poor run but he at least salvaged some kind of performance with the ball and his bowling has really come on recently. Raina has gone from looking mentally confused to now his technique and shot selection suffering also. I'm sure he'll come back because he's a very hard worker but the WC is too important to carry a guy that so out of form.
Castro Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 My final 11 would be: Sehwag (explosive batsman and gives a bowling option) Tendulkar (do I need to continue?) Gambhir (attacking batsman, capable of batting throughout the innings and a class fielder) Kohli (given his recent form and his fielding prowess) Dhoni (captain, plays the anchor role and attack given the situation) Raina (attacking batsman, finisher, class fielder and a bowling option) Yusuf (explosive batsman who can bowl) Harbhajan P Kumar Zaheer Nehra As a member stated, Yuvraj is not the jonty he used to be and he is out of form. Yusuf is a better bowler while Gambhir is a versatile bastman who is a class fielder. Raina has done well at number 6 and given his fielding prowess and bowling capabilities, warrants a place. It will be a shoot out between Yuvraj and Gambhir or Yuvraj and Yusuf Pathan.
Akshat Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 These three batsmen along with the bowlers make India a vulnerable team. I wonder how anyone can label it as favourites of the tournament!
Zero_Unit Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 On paper our batting order can make the opponent piss in their pants. But in reality half of them are out of form (including the bowlers)! Even if we qualify for quarter finals, it's a matter of one bad game and you are out of the tournament!
falconhawk Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 What's wrong with Dhoni and Yuvraj? Dhoni's batting isn't that good. He is not playing his natural game. When he came, he used to be a hitter. Now he's not even playing his natural game. He's trying to play some weird shots. He's been very inconsistent lately. Same for Yuvraj Singh. We all know that he's known for slogging. He should just play his natural game. I'm not a fan of him when he plays defensively. I would rather like to see Kohli. Kohli > Yuvraj = Raina So it's between Yuvraj and Raina. Because Yuvraj can bowl, Dhoni will prefer him I think.
fineleg Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Kohli > Yuvraj = Raina Agreed. Except Yuvi marginally > Raina (due to bowling) Dhoni has been doing this ugly fugly tuktuk for a long time now. Dhonighat shots.

This is why its important that kohli play. 52-2 or worse is not the ideal situation for guys like Raina yuvi or dhoni to come even when their in form. A guy like kohli can play aggressive yet low risk cricket and get India into a stronger position and then dhoni yuvi and pathan could take it from their. But according to Sidarth Monga of cricinfo Kohli is sitting out in place of Raina which is a very stupid move IMO.

Dhonighat shots. Dhoni has gone down in batting in the last few years due to the extra burden of captaincy. Still expect him to come good with the bat in good percentage of matches. That said, Dhoni is still THE most valuable player in the side.

Well, he played some gems when he was the captain up until last year. Like every player, even Dhoni had undergone a rough patch, so no problems with that. But Yuvi has been ordinary for some really long time and we seriously need to rethink our options.Although he will make it to the XI, he will have to score well in the opening games to stay in the side, else he will be thrashed from the side.

ravishingravi Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 India needs these two to fire. I think there is a case for Dhoni on these tracks to come up the order.
punjabi_khota Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Didn't UV score a 50 like 2 games ago :hmmm:
