nsareen Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 I am tired of these Virat's inclusion/exclsuion thread. I mean what is it??? He is by far one of the top 5 bats in the world today in terms of run scroing. How the hell can you make the guy sit out as 12th MAN. good then why dont you tell who will sit out instead of him, thats the thread intention to identify who sits out.

Have kohli n raina play. For most ICFers kohli plays, and one of yusuf n raina plays But guessing what dhoni n kirsten would be thinking, yusuf is certainty. and one of kohli and raina will play.
Clarke Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 good then why dont you tell who will sit out instead of him' date=' thats the thread intention to identify who sits out.[/quote'] I reckon there are threads on this i.e. playing XI etc, other than the fact that your title puts forward this ridiculous question. You might as well ask, should Sehwag be playing .. yeps... I would still have yusuf sit out. Have kohli n raina play. Dropping Yusuf for Raina's sake ? Did you watch cricket in the last few months ?

Did you watch cricket in the last few months ? its a pretty close race for me. raina edges out bcoz of his fielding, running between the wickets n his track record on subcontinent tracks.

Well the question may seem ridiculous to you not me, i wanted to understand what people in this forum feel about leaving out the "untouchables"
zen Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Against BD and Eng, I would play both Kohli and YP. Either Yuvi or Raina sits out. And then depending upon the form changes can be made Ind plays 6 group games and a possible 3 KO games, so we need a couple of guys to be consistent, with one of them having a high scoring WC like getting 500 runs. If you look at our batting, the ones who could have WC like that are Tendulkar, Gambhir and Kohli .... along with Sehwag, if he gets into test mode and doesn't through his wkt away after getting a start.

We have 2 warm up games to try out some of the combinations
pensionplan Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I think Kohli and for that matter Pathan both have excellent chance to be in the playing XI given the injury ridden players like Tendulkar, Sehwag and Gambhir in the side. You never know with these players. I see Kohli being a part of all the games for India and that is a good thing given the kind of form he has been on the tour of SA for most part.
zen Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 We have 2 warm up games to try out some of the combinations For me, the warm ups could be used to decide b/w Yuvi and Raina. SRT, GG, Kohli and YP would be in my starting lineup for the first two WC games. And then I will take it from there. For bowling, would start out with Zak, PK, Munaf and Bhajji. With YP, Sehwag, Yuvi/Raina and Kohli bowling a few overs. And then take it from there. If 2 of GG, Kohli, YP, Yuvi and Raina appear to be struggling then I wouldn't mind playing the 5th bowler.
Cricketics Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 good then why dont you tell who will sit out instead of him' date=' thats the thread intention to identify who sits out.[/quote'] Yusuf should sit out, but Raina might eventuallly be forced to sit out. But then Dhoni has often picked Raina over lot of other players, so you might see Raina too over Yusuf. My personal pick would be sit Yusuf out.
Sachin=GOD Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 IMO what will happen in the end is that one of Kohli or Yusuf will have to sit out simply because Yuvi and Raina are both more experienced. Although I would like to see Yuvi sit out.

Although I would like to see Yuvi sit out.ok then why not draft in RD too as he is even more experienced than either of Yuvraj or Raina that can also keep wickets. I just cannot fathom how they can sit out a player who is just playing superbly over the last few months at the top of the order. In that case let us hope one of Sehwag/Tendulkar/Gambhir do not recover in time for the WC. If the team cannot find a place for both Kohli and Yusuf in the present circumstance then it got to be a boneheaded move and let us hope there is an injury somewhere to play these two players who have earned it.
zen Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Leaving Kohli and YP out could turn out to be a move that could hurt Dhoni's captaincy, esp. if Ind gets knocked out with both Yuvi and Raina in the playing 11 for most of the games .... And I have seen Ind fail in the past with Yuvi and Raina playing one (or two) good knocks and then doing little in ICC events.
riwi999 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I think Kohli should play instead of Gambhir. We need Yuvi's bowling, we need the explosive capability of Raina and Pathan. Gambhir usually has an SR of about 100 or a little more, at best. Given our pathetic bowling attack, we could be in a really bad run-chase situation, with the RRR a ridiculous 7 or so from the start and getting worse as wickets fall. In that case, I have more faith in Kohi keeping up with the required rate than Gambhir. I like Gambhir and he can play a long innings but he is ok to chase a RRR of 5. More than that, and he could slow us down. Just my two cents.
The Outsider Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 One question to those who think Yuvraj can be dropped - what bowling combination are you planning to use to get 12-15 overs from the part timers?

Remember even in the recent Test matches his on and off appearances.
Cricketics Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Sehwag' date=' Raina and Pathan.[/quote'] Sehwag won't bowl. Dhoni won't risk. He already seems to be having a weak shoulder
The Outsider Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Sehwag' date=' Raina and Pathan.[/quote'] Sehwag is unlikely to bowl much given his shoulder injury. Raina is not a reliable part time option at all.
Laaloo Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Sehwag' date=' Raina and Pathan.[/quote'] I don't think Sehwag will bowl in the WC to be honest and Raina is a pie chucker at best. Yuvraj > Raina as far as bowling goes. Kohli has to play in place of Raina
