They want to spread the game in India and get a hold of that billion people market and eventually eying a WC in India around 2026 or so. Looks like a long shot at the moment.

Football is more Popular than Cricket over the world and it has fans all over the world irrespective of the Fact the national team sucks or Rules. Dont think many would buy your Theory, going by the world wide popularity of these clubs. For ex Officially Man United has almost 19 million fans, all cant be from UK. So many people cant be considered retarded.
