Woman pilot faked papers for licence after failing test 7 times The Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has revoked a woman pilot’s licence alleging that she used forged papers to get her airline transport pilot licence (ATPL), which is mandatory for an aircraft captain. On January 11, Indigo pilot Captain Parminder Kaur Gulati made a rough landing at Goa airport. When the plane flew back to Delhi, its nose wheel developed a snag. Investigations faulted Gulati’s landing technique. She used the nose wheel to touch down instead of using the rear landing gear. She was grounded. Further investigations showed that she had used the wrong technique several times. "We have revoked her licence. The pilot seems to have obtained an ATPL by submitting forged documents. We are going to file a police complaint," director-general of civil aviation Bharat Bhushan said. The DGCA is probing how she got her ATPL after having failed the examination seven times. Pilots aspiring to become captains must log 1,500 flying hours and pass an examination that comprises papers in navigation, metrology and radio aids. While metrology is an oral test, the other two have written and oral components. Pilots have to submit the log of flying hours, medical certificate and other documents to apply for ATPL, a tough examination conducted by the DGCA once in three months. Bharat Bhushan said the airline could not be faulted for employing the pilot since she had an ATPL licence. Asked what the airline was planning to do to prevent such incidents, Indigo Airlines president Aditya Ghosh said, "As an airline, we completely rely on DGCA. We will follow any instruction from the regulator." Sources said touts in Delhi often help pilots speed up the process of getting a licence. "We are not sure if they still function as the DGCA has started to monitor the ATPL paperwork," an official said. The regulatory authority is now checking if any agent helped Kaur get the licence. A senior pilot said it was puzzling how Kaur managed to land on the nose wheel. "A flight comes in to land with its front tilted down but the pilot lifts the nose wheel as the aircraft is about to land to allow the rear wheel to touch down. The nose wheel is not designed to take the full load of an aircraft that comes in to land," he said.

Iran threatens London boycott over 'racist' Olympic logo Iran is threatening to boycott of the 2012 London Olympics because it claims the official logo for the games resembles the word "Zion," which is a biblical term for Jerusalem. Bahram Afsharzadeh, the secretary-general of Iran's National Olympic Committee, says he sent a letter to IOC president Jacques Rogge in which he condemns the logo as "racist" and calls upon other Muslim countries to join in protest. The logo was unveiled four years ago to mass criticism, almost all of which had to do with the awkward, bulky design and not pro-Zionist conspiracy http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/blog/fourth_place_medal/post/Iran-threatens-London-boycott-over-racist-Olym?urn=oly-327678 Talk about paranoia

Now a virtual wife for Indian bachelors Indian bachelors keen to get a taste of married life can now log on and apply for a virtual wife online in a scheme that offers a glimpse into changing Indian society. Bharat Matrimony's biwihotohaisi.com (an ideal wife) website allows men to choose from four different types of wife and then receive automated telephone messages from them that reflect their character. The first candidate is the devoted Ritu Gharwali (Ritu Homemaker), 23, whose saccharine entreaties to "please eat your lunch, I have made your favourite dish" would make her the ideal Indian housewife in conservative circles. Matrimonial advertisements in Indian newspapers and websites, still widely used to find prospective partners, often feature men seeking "simple, homely girls with good family values." There's a more feisty version of Ritu for those wanting a more challenging partner in the form of 25-year-old Bijli Thakur (Electricity Thakur) who is described as "Dominating. Bossy. Control-freak." While Ritu Gharwali pleads with her hard-working husband to come home for dinner, Bijli Thakur angrily threatens to "send your bed to the office if you don't leave soon." While these two characters would be clearly identifiable for men of older generations, it is the other women who offer the most revealing insights into the changing characteristics of modern Indian womanhood. Milli Chulbulli (Milli Naughty), 21, is an excitable secretary in a multinational firm with a life that revolves around shopping trips, neighbourhood gossip, and an addiction to television soap operas. Finally, the website offers a chance to hook up with Shalini Sheherwali (Shalini From the City), an ambitious 26-year-old banker. An independent, tech-savvy woman who purrs, "we'll totally connect, honey!", Shalini Sheherwali loves shopping online and loathes soap operas. In a country where arranged marriages are still the norm and dating is often frowned upon, matrimonial websites are big business. Although none of the women advertised on www.biwihotohaisi.com is real, the website's idea is that bachelors will rush to sign up to its parent site, Bharat Matrimony, to find a suitable wife after receiving so much attention by phone. http://www.hindustantimes.com/Now-a-virtual-wife-for-Indian-bachelors/Article1-657165.aspx

Woman pilot? Won't fly! By: Agencies Date: 2011-02-25 Place: New Delhi A Mumbai-bound flight was delayed by one-and-a-half hours at the Delhi airport on Friday morning -- first by fog and then by a passenger who did not want to travel on a plane piloted by a woman. Passengers on board had a curious story to tell as to why Indigo flight 6E 179, supposed to depart at 8.10 am, could not take off before 9.40 am. "First the flight was held up by a slight fog. Then, just when we were about to fly, the doors were opened again at around 9 as a middle-aged man seated a couple of seats away from me objected to a woman piloting the plane," co-passenger Partha Guha said. The man apparently turned jittery after the customary flight announcement was made, giving the pilot's name - it was a woman. "The man first started grumbling to co-passengers, 'Marna hai kya? Ghar nahi sambhalta, plane kya sambhalegi?' (I don't want to die! She can't take care of the house, how will she take care of a plan?) "He called the airhostesses and objected to the woman pilot. Ground staff were called and they took him out of the plane. This situation did not change for nearly 40 minutes even as other passengers became restless and upset." The man relented only after he was told he would be taken off the plane -- with his check in baggage. An airport official admitted that there was a 'mentally unsound' man on board the plane.

Immigration Officer Put Wife On Terrorist List To Get Rid Of Her By Jetpacker at The Jetpacker Wed Feb 2, 2011 10:30am EST If you thought breaking up with someone via text message was harsh, wait until you hear about this. There’s a story coming out of the United Kingdom about an immigration officer who put his wife on the terrorist list to get rid of her. The guy was so sick and tired of his wife that when she flew back to Pakistan to visit her family, he covertly added her name to the Border Control’s list of suspected terrorists. When she tried to return home to the UK, she was shocked to find that she wasn’t allowed to board the plane, and security refused to tell her why. So the wife remained stuck in Pakistan… for THREE YEARS. That’s right, it wasn’t until three years later that the truth finally came out during an interview for a promotion in which the husband was questioned about his wife being a terrorist. That’s when he confessed to putting her on the No-Fly list to get rid of her. He was subsequently fired for gross misconduct and the wife was allowed to return to the UK to give him a good beating http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/02/02/idUS256856829920110202

Spider-Man's debut comic sells for $1.1 million 250_spidermancomic.jpg PHILADELPHIA – A comic collector has been caught in Spider-Man's web, paying $1.1 million for a near-mint copy of "Amazing Fantasy" No. 15 that features the wall-crawler's debut. The issue, first published in 1962, was sold Monday by a private seller to a private buyer, ComicConnect.com chief executive Stephen Fishler told The Associated Press on Tuesday. It's not the highest price ever paid for a comic book, an honor that goes to "Action Comics" No. 1 with Superman on the cover, which went for $1.5 million. But Fishler says the price paid is the most for a book from the Silver Age, the mid-1950s to about 1970. "The fact that a 1962 comic has sold for $1.1 million is a bit of a record-shattering event," he said. "That something that recent can sell for that much and be that valuable is awe-inspiring." http://movies.yahoo.com/news/movies.ap.org/spider-man39s-debut-comic-sells-for-1.1-million

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday said that terrorism has no borders and expressed the hope that India will make fool-proof arrangements for the security of Cricket World Cup. Commenting on news reports in the Indian media about planned terrorist attacks on the World Cup venues in India launched from Pakistani soil, Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua said that terrorism is a vicious phenomenon that all must collectively confront. Pakistan, itself a victim of terrorism, takes all such reports seriously, she added. Janjua said we have already conveyed our concerns about vituperative statements being made from within India about participation of Pakistan’s cricket team. Pakistan looks forward to the forthcoming meeting of Secretaries Interior and Home to discuss, inter-alia, counter-terrorism, she said. http://www.dawn.com/2011/03/10/pak-shows-concern-over-world-cup-security-threats.html Couldn't they just instruct the kasabs not to attack Pak team :hmmmm2:
