That will happen based on pre-defined team rankings. I propose scrap all group A matches :--D

Seedings for knockouts are not pre-determined but the venues are, i.e. matches will be played in the country who is highly seeded in case of India, SL or B'desh. In nutshell in case of a quarter or semi clash between Ind and SL, the match will be played in India as India is a higher seeded team.

That means if Australia is in QF, then they'll be considered top team of that group, by virtue of their ODI ranking being 1) even if they did badly during group stages. However, I may be wrong in my understanding. Somebody please confirm.

The quarters are A1 Vs B4, A2 Vs B3, A3 Vs B2 and A4 Vs B1 and the rankings depend on group standings. That's why it's imperative we top our group as in that case we will most probably meet NZ in quarters. The venues will be decided based on the matches. If SL plays any team other than Ind then they play the match in SL else they will have to face Ind in Ind. Same is true for semis as well. Thus Ind will play all their matches in India no matter what.

Actually I was under impression that it would be same as was for T 20 WC. Anyways that means there is something to play for in group A as well. Isn't it?:winky:

To be fair, I was not expecting it to be great considering the format and the form of teams like West Indies and New Zealand. ICC/BCCI missed the ball big time by including too many associate teams and making many matches irrelevant by having 4 teams qualify for the quarterfinals from each group from the first round. But then again, more teams mean more matches which mean more advertising and revenue. Who cares about the fans anyway ? I think the next World cup will be much better with only 10 teams competing.

The next few fixtures make me want to slit my wrists. This is meant to be the ICC's showpiece event, and it's incredible how they have managed to completely bollocks it up. If they wanted minnows, fine but don't give them all 6 bloody games to play! A straight 16 team knock out would have been ideal, every single match would have been great to watch and a fantastic spectacle. Each test playing nation could have had a minnow in the first round and then we go straight to the quarters and semis.
