Should Bhaji be guaranteed a spot?

Did i miss a Shane Warne waiting on the sidelines ? We're in the middle of the WC' date=' no big changes coming up.[/quote'] not talking about making a change now, but his spot in the side is never in doubt and yet he rarely delivers with the ball. Agreed we don't have a superstar spinner waiting in the sidelines, but he's picked in the side to take wickets, which he doesn't do

Bhajji is a major let down in this WC so far. He is the main spinner and as one of the primary bowlers he needs to get us wickets, not just darting fast and furious  Even with a decent (for bowlers) pitch in B'lore vs Ireland, he still throws darts. In the meanwhile, Ashwin is cooling his heals, and Chawla is mediocre. But I dont have great expectation on R. Ashwin either. The entire Indian bowling in ODIs (barring once in a while Zaheer Khan) is as mediocre as it gets!

So you would agree that Bhajji's playing every match in the WC which is followed by the IPL. Maybe we should be discussing this once the tourney's over, which if we win or get to the finals, he's going to be hard to drop ?

I mentioned the likes of Warnie and you're suggesting Ashwin ? How is Ashwin a much better prospect if at all ? I'm not going by IPL records if that's his claim to fame.

not comparing Adhwin with Warne...but just because warne not playing for india will not be the reason for continuing with bajji average performance.other wise why should u select multiple spinners ?

Bhajji's bowling was terrible today! so defensive
Agreed ! But at least he was less expensive than (Dhoni's pet) Chawla:omg: Anyway,Chawla's out for good for sure and Ashwin will take his place.

Can Harbhajan get back into form ? I thought he bowled pretty poorly today and also from the beginning of the tournament. He never looked like picking up a wicket or even troubling the batsmen at any stage. He had no consistency in line and length. He is supposed to be one of our strike bowlers but he didnt pick a single wicket against a team like Ireland and on a pitch which helped slower bowlers and where Yuvraj picked up 5 wickets. In South Africa, he bowled quite decently in conditions which didnt assist spin and looked like a threatening bowler. So what do you think is the reason for his poor performance so far ? Too much pressure ? Do you think its possible that Harbhajan can get his form back before the big games against WI and South Africa and also in the knock out stage ?

What's wrong w/ his form? He has usually been like this unless it's a 4th/5th day pitch in tests or something like that in ODIs

Today's pitch is no belter. It was like a third day wicket. The pitch was dry, slow and turning. Only Chawla and Harbhajan bowled all over the place and botched it the way only they can. They only had to bowl a consistent line and length, not try too much and they could have got wickets, which Yuvraj did. So that begs the question, if they are so toothless against Ireland in helpful conditions, what will happen when they face better batting line ups ?

Chawla probably bowled himself out of the world cup .... Bhajji appears to be content with being economical. I don't think he bowls with a mindset of picking up wkts .... Hoping that Bhajji will change his mindset is like hoping that a dog's tail would straighten :winky: Weather we like it or not, we have to pick wkts through our seamers, and on a spinner friendly surface try Ashwin .... Bhajji will usually try to contain

this is a very stupid OP plz explain to me how bhajji bowled 'poorly' today. just because someone didnt get wickets doesnt mean they bowled poorly. i dunno if u have noticed, but batsmen NEVER take chances against harbhajan. how many boundaries have u seen batsmen hitting off his bowling? england scored 338 and could hit just 4 boundaries in the 10 overs they faced him. that is astounding. u are wondering why he doesnt get wickets like yuvraj did today. take a look at the shots played against yuvraj. like porterfield hitting his long hop straight to bhajji at xtra cover. or kevin o brien spooning one straight back to him. do u really think batsman would ever try to attack bhajji like that? not in a million years. if u look at the fields dhoni gives him, u will get an idea of why he doesnt get wickets. spinners need men around the bat to take wickets and create pressure. field is spread out when bhajji bowls in middle overs, so he is basically reduced to containing as batsmen have room to work him around for singles. he gave just 20 odd runs today in his 10 overs, and u are bracketing him with chawla, saying he bowled 'all over the place', which is utter garbage. chawla and harbhajan were night and day. sometimes i wonder if some of u ppl on this forum even watch the games.

Ganguly said that he spoke 2 bhajji and he told him that bring the field up and invite the batter,s to go over the top ask them to attack you then you are bound to get wicket he also said because other spinner,s leak runs so then bhaj tries to contain the batsman

I think he is in form.but can't get better result than fans expected in Indian dead pitches .that's y v called Indian pitches r batting paradise. It's not only 4 hurbajan if god came 2 da ball even he can't

Harbhajan is more of a restrictive bowler and not a genuine wicket taker. Today so many of his deliveries were on or outside leg so that batsmen couldn't free their arms to hit the ball. Result was that the Irish batsmen were able to knock or nudge the ball and get a single 4-5 times every over. We have huge bowling worries as I don't see many wicket takers. It seems we are hoping we score 300+ every time and our opponents get out while trying to go for runs. So far even that strategy hasn't worked either :(( Hope Ashwin gets in and he's able to provide us the wicket taking option.
