theanalyst Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 @ analyst havent seen him bat but there have been many who have commented on various sites that he was the best why was he highly regarded Not sure about whether he was the best. That is debatable since there have been many great players before and after him and I don't want to go down that road. Among the very best for sure and easily makes my top 5 of players that I've watched. Too many points to mention about the King but to keep it short, he was highly rated because of his ability to dominate the bowling (good bowling as well, not pies). A consistent player as well. He played for too long and that is why his stats don't look as good but most people who saw him bat would pick him in their all-time 11. A trend setter in ODIs as well since he played a game that was far beyond his times.
nballa Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 a part of me didn't want to see him carrying on playing like an average player. what part?
Zap_Brannigan Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I felt like that when Viv Richards was coming to the end of his career. Slightly different since he was a shadow of the player that he was in 1976 and a part of me didn't want to see him carrying on playing like an average player. You'll get over it and then celebrate a great career. This finishing on a high is also overstated. It would be perfect for any player but a player's legacy is written much before he finishes. When people talk of Richards, they remember Viv at his best rather than his struggles at the end. Sorry for mentioning Richards so many times but I'm a massive fan. With Sachin, his career and me following cricket basically started at the same time.Although i have been part of start to end of many cricketer's careers like Ganguly and Dravid (in the near future), i haven't known cricket without Sachin being part of the Indian team. This would probably be true for everyone in their late 20's and early 30's.

ludhianvi Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Nice pics! Some of you fellows are in too much awe of the cricketers...hehe
Zero_Unit Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Good one. I've seen the Indian team members several times in England. No offence but some of the chaps behave like morons. That's not just India though. Every team has a few of them. Also met Tendulkar at the Asian awards in London a few months back thanks to a friend. I bet one of the monkey was Sreesanth :hysterical:
pinkfreud Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Just a couple more years...will just have to enjoy these final years of his brilliance :(( If Sachin quits ODIs after the WC then I wonder if he'll play in the IPL hereafter. :mi: won't be the same without him if that's the case :((:(( Nice pics! Some of you fellows are in too much awe of the cricketers...hehe ++ lol.
