zubinpepsi Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 in the semis, murali came to field only when he was bowling.. should this be allowed in the finals.. knowing the lankans they will shamelessly do this.. using murali only for bowling.... I know Dhoni wudnt make a fuss since its murali.... but this is the worldcup finals.. we shouldnt allow this... and also deny the by-runner to him when he comes to bat..
akshayxyz Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 If its against the rules - can't ICC take care of the matter?
zubinpepsi Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 I dont know wat the rules say.. but i wud expect if a player is carryiing an injury into the game.. then he cant be allowed a by runner.. and it shud be the same for the subsititue fielder innit? Will the umpires take notice of this?
kabira Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 No you cannot have replacement fielder unless you get new injury. They won't be allowed by umpires.
Shane Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Actually the umps wont allow it too, since it is known he is playing with an injury. Didnt the same happen to VVS Laxman iirc in the Test Series against Oz? Where he was rested in the Blore Test as a result.
Watson87 Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 No, Murali should be dropped, he's useless against us in our pitches anyway, should get Randiv, need to take our revenge.
punjabi_khota Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Actually the umps wont allow it too' date=' since it is known he is playing with an injury. rajmarie Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 India should not have anything to do with it. ICC, Match Referee & Umpires should enforce the rule (if there is any such rule)
Cricketics Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I have seen players going of the field for some massage or for restroom break, you can a bowler also after finishing his spell goes out very easily. The rule isn't really perfect. The law needs to be fixed and a time duration, length should be added to it so that the player comes back soon or he is fired from the game.

Now Murali's a proud 'Indi Commando'..err 'Kochi Tusker' :P on topic..shouldn't be allowed. Hope our management express their concern well in advance to match officials.
Clarke Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I thought the rule was that the player has to field for the # of overs he skipped before he bowls. In essence, if Murali is not on the field for the first ten overs, he can come in before over 11 and start bowling from over 21. Is that for test cricket only ?

urbestfriend Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 irrelevant especially we are doing the same. In the last match Piyush Chawla was on the filed for almost entire match being substitute for one or other.
saneindian Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 We have had Raina field for nearly 35-40 over of the match in the matches when he wasn't in the 11. No one ever objected to it. Even in the last match Piyush Chawla and Pathan were on the field for quite a few overs. We shouldn't make too much of fuss about Murali getting a sub-fielder IMO. Yes in the past, Sanga had denied a runner to Viru when Pakistan allowed one in the next match. But that's how he is and gets the flak for exactly those reasons. We don't need to stoop to that level.
achilles Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 From a neutral perspective, Morally, India should be the last country making a fuss about this. We have played all our 15 players throughout the tournament. When was not in the XI, they fielded for us practically the entire time we fielded. The boys in question are Raina, Ashwin, Yusuf & Chawla. So it is Sri Lanka which should be making a fuss about our practice. Not the other way round.
kabira Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 ^but none of our guys played with the known injury?? Every team uses substitutes, thats fine, but you can't use substitute for already injured player.
girishk14 Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Every other sport has subs, and sports like bball and football are 90 min game. Cricket is a freakin 7 hour game, and not allowing substitutes is inhuman. In fact, fielding subs should become a practice. Id advocate for batting and bowling subs too but the game doesn't really work with that. All that said, the Lankans were stupid playing Murali against minnows NZ. They should have saved him for the final. And he should be allowed to play this match injured.
