vaibhav_delhi Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 From what I've read (n experienced a little from programming competitions like TopCoder) , the people of the region of eastern Europe n Russia are particularly strong in physics, mathematics, computer science, chess or anything which requires logical abilities. Thats primarily due to cultural reasons....they have a culture of mathematical problem solving....

Having worked closely with our Chariman and CEO who both happen to be jewish, you also find that these guys have a lot of unity and are very well connected, especially when it comes to doing business.

Chinese, Japanese and even Viatnamese trump indians and jews in math olympiads with alarming regularity :omg:

He was born into a Jewish Indian family in Mumbai. Why look for smart Jews away, when such a genius stayed within our own borders. He was a bi-lingual poet- Marathi and English. But I don't know much about his Marathi poetry. Maybe the Marathi speakers here can shed some more light on that. Here are two of his famous poems ( if anyone is interested). The Night of the Scorpion As the name suggests, its about his observations as a child when a scorpion bit his mother and the entire village came to observe and help his family. Seems pretty ordinary at first glance, but when you read it again and understand the deeper nuances you will appreciate his genius. The Patriot This one is written in 'spoken Indian English' is a good take on contemporary ( of the 80s) Indian politics and thinking. When my dad was in college, he said that Jews were a visible community in Mumbai. There were many famous businesses and educational institutions that Jews ran. Most of these Jewish families have arrived in India much before Christianity and Islam and are very inconspicuous. However, in the mid 70s or something, Israel offered Jews world over the right to 'return' to Israel. Most of the Jews of Mumbai went 'back' to to Israel. The funny and tragic part is that they were a well off community with substantial land holdings and business interests. there still is a Jewish cemetery in Mumbai. And in a relatively prime area. And they weren't persecuted in any manner here. Never understood the logic of leaving behind your place of birth/business/friends etc for something that you have only a mythological/religious affiliation to. Mind you, these guys were rich people. Nissim Ezekiel ofcourse, chose to stay back in Mumbai. He died in 2004. He was suffering from Alzheimer's.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Alicia Silverstone, Natalie Portman, Isla Fisher, Brooke Burke, Kate Hudson, Rachel Blison, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Bar Rafaeli. these are from some top 10 list, and there many more top 10/25/30/N lists. The only one who single handedly brings down the average hotness of jewish girls is - guess who? Sarah Jessica Parker.
