Gayle, who earned the Orange Cap in IPL for scoring most number of runs, has not been included for either the ODIs or the 12-man squad for Saturday's Twenty20 match against India in Trinidad. Pacer Kemar Roach will rest for the T20 game as he is engaged in some heavy-duty workload. The only change from the XI that humbled Pakistan in St Lucia last month is the inclusion of uncapped left-arm Jamaican speedster Krishmar Santokie. There was no place for Pollard and Dwayne Bravo as they have been out of T20 touch. They missed most of the recent Caribbean Twenty20 tournament, which is part of the WICB selection criteria. Gayle's open war with the Board became his undoing. His expressive remarks on radio, describing his displeasure at not being included in the squad for the Pakistan series, did not go down well with the WICB. Gayle has spent the past six weeks playing in the IPL with Bangalore and was named as the Player of the Tournament. The Windies Board, while naming the squad, explained Gayle's omission. "Chris Gayle will not be considered for selection to the West Indies team before an intended meeting with himself, the selection committee, the WICB management and the West Indies team management," the statement said. "The selection committee views this meeting as necessary as a result of Gayle's comments in a widely publicized radio interview in Jamaica." Jerome Taylor got the axe too. Just like Gayle, he said the WICB did not care about how he was recuperating from an injury until after he had left for the IPL. The selection committee minced no words when it said that the player must play an entire season of regional cricket to prove his fitness. Opener Adrian Barath has made a return to small-time cricket in Trinidad but is still undergoing the rehabilitation process after suffering a serious hamstring injury before the World Cup. Reprts say he will be match-fit for the Tests. Following Saturday's Twenty20 in Trinidad, the two sides will lock horns in two ODIs at the same venue, before heading to Antigua to continue the series. It is a bad news. India would have gained lot more confidence if they managed to beat a side with Gayle. I mean.. this has now turned into a "A team" match. Real farce. Two international teams send A teams. May be they can convert this into an A tour and withdraw some more top players as well.

"I haven't heard from him yet," said West Indies' chief selector, Clyde Butts during the team's practice session at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain on Wednesday. Inspite of his stellar performance for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the just-concluded IPL, Gayle was left out of the the West Indies squad for the lone Twenty20 match and the first two ODIs for his outburst against WICB. The WICB asked Gayle to make himself available for a meeting with the board, selectors and the team management in order to be eligible for future selection. But so far, he has turned his back to the offer. The bone of contention between Gayle and WICB is the radio interview in which he had alleged that the board officials did not bother to check the status of his fitness or availability before announcing the squad for the recently-held Pakistan series. That has irked the WICB officials to such an extent that they have kept the records of the e-mails sent to the big-bodied Jamaican enquiring about his fitness as well as the record of the numerous phone calls that went unanswered. The WICB selectors are likely to announce the team for the remaining three ODIs by early next week and Gayle's adamant behaviour could see him miss out on a place in the national team for those matches.
