ravishingravi Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Yes, if he is all one has seen and if rotten tomatoes can be taken seriously
Zelig Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Lol He is a good director, but is he on par with Orson Wells, Griffith, Scorsese, Ingmar Bergman, Kubrick, Kurosawa, Hitch, Coppolla, Fellini and Godard? Hell NO! Just coz a random site rates his movies higher, it don't mean he is THAT good. Btw, I rate Tarantino, Kiarostami, Haneke, Lynch, the Coen bros, Fincher and Spielberg higher than Nolan among contemporary directors.
ravishingravi Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Or for that matter Renoir, ozu, mizoguchi, imamura.kieslowski, bunuel, eisenstein, altman, Roeg, power and pressburger, Allen etc. The list can go on and Nolan wouldnt fit in it yet. But he is one of the best of contemporary directors. He needs to get out of his comfort zone though
rahulrulezz Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 and the funniest bit is that his lowest rated movie 'Prestige' IMO is the best movie of all time.. Have seen the movie atleast 15 times... Highly recommended to everyone..Bestest ending of all movies
Sachin=GOD Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 No, he's not. Not even among the top 5 among contemporary directors.
Dark Warrior Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Inception, The Dark Knight, Momento, The Prestige... Enough said!! Hell yeah, he is!! People ain't agreeing here 'coz they are acting like Paki when asked about Tendulkar or Dhoni.
Sooda Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Btw, I rate Tarantino, Kiarostami, Haneke, Lynch, the Coen bros, Fincher and Spielberg higher than Nolan among contemporary directors. Tarantino? Really? You could argue he needs to get out of his comfort zone too. Others contemporaries...Ridley Scott, James Cameron, even Clint Eastwood, Greengrass, Del Toro (), Cronenberg are at least on par...Paul T Anderson maybe...?
Dark Warrior Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 People post those directors' top movies also. Can't figure them out by reading their names. :D
DomainK Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Tarantino is good, but is a very one-dimensional director. I don't think he can do much outside his genre. I don't think anyone beats Spielberg when it comes to variety and quality across all genres.
lonestarranger Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 I had no idea about his 'Following'. Now that I know of it, I MUST see it. Way to ruin my Sunday, don.
zen Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Nolan is definitely amongst the top directors of all time. I have watched all his films and liked all of them. Over the years, we have seen many directors shell out absolute gems but in b/w those gems, they shell out some average films too. All films by Nolan have been brilliant so far. Nolan is one of those directors whose name makes you want to see the film. Other such directors being Hitchcock, Kurosawa to name a few.
