Star opener Virender Sehwag is working very hard to attain full fitness so that he can be a part of the Indian squad for the tour of England which starts next month. "I am getting better and working hard on my rehabilitation. Hopefully, I will be back soon. I am trying very hard to be fit so that I can play in during the England tour," Sehwag said. Sehwag admitted that it is difficult to sit at home and watch his teammates slog it out but there is very little one can do about it. "It is very difficult when you are sitting at home and watching India playing against the West Indies. It's very frustrating but you can't do anything. It is because of the shoulder injury, I have to sit out and do my rehab." About maintaining the top rank in Tests, he feels that it will take a lot of effort on the part of the Indian team to stay there for considerable period of time. "We are maintaining this number-one position from the last one year or so. Reaching that number-one position is difficult and it is even more difficult to stay there for a longer time." "If we can beat the West Indies, England and Australia (this year), we can prove that we really are the number one team," Sehwag was quoted as saying during an interview with the ICC Cricket World Radio Show. India have maintained their top rank since December 2009 when it dethroned South Africa after beating Sri Lanka at home by 2-0. He still has a sling on his operated shoulder. A comeback to international cricket in 4 weeks time looks nearly impossible. The best case scenario could be return for the 3rd test which starts on 10th August. So Viru needs to be fit by early August so that he can play the practice match before the 3rd test. Still a fight against time though. Hopefully he does not rush his comeback and gives the shoulder enough time it needs for rehab. He made the mistake of rushing back in 2009 and the injury resurfaced within 18 months time.

Dubai: Virender Sehwag, who is working to get fit for the away series against England, says that World No. 1 India can prove their supremacy in Tests if they can win all the three overseas series this year. India have been the No. 1 Test side since December 2009. They have been able to beat teams in their own backyard and maintain the top spot. At the start of the year, India levelled the three-match away Test series against South Africa 1-1. India are currently touring West Indies where they will play three Tests. After that, India will tour England for four Tests and later this year, they will visit Australia for four Tests. "If we can beat the West Indies, England and Australia, we can prove that we really are the number one team," Sehwag was quoted as saying during an interview with the ICC Cricket World Radio Show. They would have obviously taken the advice of the best medical experts in the area and came up with the timeline for recovery. I am reasonably confident that he will be fit for the English series.

there is no way he is going to fit for the first two tests,he cant walk into a pivotal test series without match practice and some rehab to test out the repaired shoulder.his best hope is the tour match sandwiched in between the tests(like sanindian mentioned).

He is likely to continue using the sling for another two weeks. Now that leaves him with just two weeks to test the shoulder strength and then get back to cricket and be ready for an international tour. To me it sounds extremely difficult. But the selfish fan in me does want him to be fit for the tour and smash the gloating poms to show them who is the real boss.

I didn't know his shoulder is still in a sling. Does look difficult to make it, then. Anyway, I've been resigned to the fact that he will miss the England series once he played the IPL instead of going for the surgery after the World Cup. Hopefully Vijay or whoever it is can do an adequate job. No batsman can match Veeru but we can't afford a walking wicket either.

We are producing so much of tailunt in IPL that I wouldn't worry about IPL being the cause for Sehwag missing the most important test series of the year. There are loads of IPL openers like Anirudha Srikkanth, Mohnish Mishra, Asnodkar etc. who can easily fill in the perceived gap.
