Abhinav Mukund...

Good innings from Mukund today. His dismissal was disappointing. He will learn. Otherwise he looks a very good batsman. He was careful about leaving away deliveries and counter inswing in good way. Like some commentator said he stays back and can handle bounce. Looks a good prospect to me. He can become a regular player for India in future after the retirement of trio.

There's a lot of Sadagopan Ramesh in him. Especially the drive through the covers and the whip of his pads.

I'm disappointed that he once again didn't convert a good start. If he continues to get out in the 30-60 range' date=' his days are numbered in the team.[/quote'] oh cmon.this is the kind of prospect we have to nurture for the future.he has to work on getting out to bad shots but he is worth having around.

Starts shakily...but played with a lot more confidence after getting used to the pitch. The best part is that he scores at a quick clip. So going forward he must be our reserve opener.

++ Not only that the chances of him being dropped in favor of Dravid opening and Yuvi coming in middle order have diminished by a big margin!!!!! with this innings

Its important that we keep a few things in context when judging this guy. He's 21 years old, this is his 4th test and he's playing in conditions that are completely alien to him. So far, he has exceeded expectations.

No, he's done enough to be the reserve opener. Remember that Murali Vijay, who is six years older and has more experience of international cricket, is completely useless away from India. Mukund does have some technical issues but he is improving and isn't as technically loose as Vijay (well, Vijay looked a solid batsman when he began, but his game has gone to pieces since the IPL).

In fact bcci should limit ipl participation to 25 and older players only. It's hard for a young player to adjust to tamasha cricket and test cricket.

He has played only 3 innings of 40+. He is what, 21-22 years old? Can't say at this stage that he has got conversion problem. It was a big day, playing at Lords, ball was swinging both ways and he was facing a very good bowling line-up. Still he was able to handle the situation and he scored quickly. Remember some of pre-gauti openers like Chopra. They used to get stuck. He was playing his shots, but he was very careful and balanced. Good luck to him. I hope he plays a big innings soon. He looks like kind of player whom India can nurture for future test cricket. Certainly doesn't look like rubbish IPL batsman who score 100 off 60 balls against mediocre bowling at flat pitch, but clueless at difficult situations. I want to see more test players rather than T20 batsmen. Compare him to Vijay. Vijay doesn't look good with bounce. Mukund on the other hand wasn't troubled by the pace and bounce.

Agreed. But unfortunately, with Abhinav starting to come into focus because of his Test spot, it is inevitable he will get a big IPL offer, and the tamasha could end up destroying his game. The IPL is the biggest impediment to India's future Test success.

uncanny resemblance to Ramesh when he plays those on drives.. I hope he does better than Ramesh. But he definately has concentration issues.

Ramesh was h better and a free flowing batsman...let mukund first reach that level..than talk ahead...

Good, gutsy player, definitely a player to be part of the team as a reserve opener. Just need to improve on his off side game, which he can learn with time as he becomes more confident and gets the feel that he belongs in test arena.

Interesting to hear Boycott say Mukund's technique is alright. Sunny had some good comments on how he was trying to play everything, etc. Hope he talks to guys like Sunny and tightens up his technique. Overall a good outing against a decent attack and ending up being the 2nd highest scorer for the team.
