Fact is Australia of 2000 would have never rested 5 players on foreign tour.
Sorry to break it to you but fact is only Sachin rested, rest were injured. :giggle:

I second it "We are not No#1 side for sure" if a team cannot push for a win (Mind you we could have still fallen short by 15-20 runs), it doesn't deserve #1 status. We are, if put mildly, a bunch of honest triers. I would suggest the fear to lose overcame the will to Win this game and that is not what CHAMPION team are made of.

OK then. The next time someone tells u that the Indian cricket team is not #1' date='please agree with him.[/quote'] Well it is what it is ...I don't really believe in the rating (ICC system) anyways. It is an honest opinion, if Aussies had done this 5-10 yrs ago I would have said the same. To me India should have won a lot more Overseas test matches than they actually did(last 5 yrs)..first defensive Dravid and now Dhoni although little better, but the results are same...he could have got following scoreline against NZ 2-0, SA 2-1 and now against WI 3-0. Look back in last 50 yrs so many teams dominated world cricket but we have only two sides worth mentioning- Windies & Aussies. Why ?

Have to agree with the OP! I say we are not even the deserving number 2s! No.1 is defined by the WI and AUS reigns but now we are left with a bunch of number threes struggling it out. England has a good chance to make it their own era but they have their own style of choking I may have spoken too much too early as this is just our B team. We may have a whole new dimension when we see the three biggies come back namely SRT, Viru, GG and not to forget our spear head Zakkie boi

We dont have the "talent" (yet) to dominate like these 2 great sides. Although improbable, it was still risky to lay the series on the line with this team that we have currently. Its not a question of intent as much as it is about capability.

This team has shown enough 'intent' to justify why we are no 1. irrespective of what the wrist slitters say, the efforts in the 4th innings chase in the 3rd Test in SL, against Australia at Mohali and Bangalore, the final day bowling after Zak was injured in the Eden test vs SA, the batting from VVS and Zaheer at Durban etc are proof enough of the "intent" of this team. As you rightly say with a full strength team, we could still have gone for it, hell the intent was there when Raina was sent up, but once he got out they decided to pack up. Defensive yes but some of the reaction is way OTT.

I mean, look, I absolutely love what Zaheer brings to our attack, but he has a career average of 31. Good bowler though he is, Marshall or McGrath he is not. And that's the caliber of our bowlers the WI and Aus had at their peaks (and not just the one - Holding, Ambrose, Warne etc.). We have nothing like that quality, and you need those sorts of bowlers to dominate cricket. But we are a good team and deserving of our no.1 spot looking at the quality of teams around currently.

nowadays Dhoni is happy w/ the least effort.... as long as we've won by some margin...he's happy because his sponsors are happy, BCCI is happy and everyone is happy. There is no effort to go for the kill ....bas chalta hai attitude....would've given his 200% if this was IPL

A full or near full strength India is #1 team but I get a feeling that for many even an under strength team is number 1 .... Don't get me wrong but a team vijay, mukund, Raina, munaf, PK, etc would struggle to be in the top 3, let alone be #1 .... Given the context, I would take the series win in WI, irrespective of the margin

If weather did not interfere India would have taken this series 3-0. A good gutsy knock by Chanderpaul and F Edwards. The opponents showed good fight, appreciate that and move on. Bottom line, weather dictated the score line. Doesn't matter if it were Aussies of the past or WI from 1970s they would not have had control over the weather, full stop.
