Cricketics Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Is if Mukund fails in first test and Sehwag isn't ready by 2nd. Most likely Sehwag won't be there in 2nd test either. But, Can Dhoni Surprise us all?? and Play Yuvi as opener? With Gambhir. Anyone remember the 2008 tour to Australia? Dravid was made to open in first 2 test and a lot of people felt that before the series, Yuvraj might turn up as opener with Jaffer since Dravid no. 3 slot will remain with him. But it didn't happen. I won't be surprised if Yuvraj plays actually and Mukund is dropped for the first test.
punjabi_khota Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Odds of UV suceeding as opener < Odds of Dravid suceeding as opener < Odds of Mukund suceeding as opener
Trichromatic Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Odds of UV suceeding as opener :giggle: Even if Yuvraj plays, I won't like to see him opening the innings. He is better at playing in the middle order. The reason is that he doesn't seem to be too comfortable right from the start. Once he is set, then he starts playing his natural game. If he opens, then chances that he will survive is very less. If Mukund is dropped from the side, then I won't mind someone like Dhoni to open.
yoda Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Odds of Yuvi being asked to open in 1st test < Odds of Sehwag being ready for 1st test
Roshanrocks Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Yuvi hasnt played much since IPL.... am sure he wont make it to the first test. unless the think thank want a left arm spinner. thats the only thing right now that could put things in his favor. Raina's form and recent performance will also give him a spot ahead of Yuvraj. Yuvraj could only replace Mukund, but i dont think the team management ™ wud want either of him or Dravid to open. No i cannot see Yuvraj breaking into the team unless the pitch favors spin and the TM wants his left arm spin badly.
deepak_sach Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I can see all the posters in this forum are biased against Mukund just because he is from Tamil Nadu.....
Deleted_User_1 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I can see all the posters in this forum are biased against Mukund just because he is from Tamil Nadu..... Ma ki duddu pee lee beta?
achilles Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Ticksy, I doubt he will play as an Opener for he couldn't succeed against Australia on Indian pitches. This is England and he doesn't have the temperament to see off the new ball. The only way he gets a look in is- Someone gets injured.
veer Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 why we are sticking wid Mukund.. did he impress you guys that much..?
vvvslaxman Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 why we are sticking wid Mukund.. did he impress you guys that much..? Because he is an opener? dropping him would upset the whole dynamics of indian batting order. India will have dravid, gauti, laxman and Tendulkar at top 4. entire lower order would look less stable.
Trichromatic Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 why we are sticking wid Mukund.. did he impress you guys that much..? In test matches, teams need to go for the specialist openers and not for the temporary shifts. Yuvraj is not an opener. I don't think Yuvraj as opener is very good idea in the long run.
Pagalpanti Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Nah Mukund has been pretty decent since 2nd test against WI. And don't forget Mukund relishes to play in England. Mukund averaged 50+ in the A Team Tri series which was played in England.
King Tendulkar Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Yuvraj cant open. Mukund has to play, unless Dravid opens. I would play Mukund. Capable of gritty ugly 50, which frankly is what we need. Yuvraj has to sit out
ganeshran Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I can see all the posters in this forum are biased against Mukund just because he is from Tamil Nadu..... This is just like the imaginary anti punjabi bias one is accused of while criticizing Bhajji .
BERGKAMP Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 The only thing UV will be doing in this test series is carrying out drinks and oranges to the players in the middle. Oh and maybe a few guest appearances as sub fielder.
Sachinism Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I'd have selected Yuvi, but Raina got a ton and was the only batsman to get decent runs, so no way can he be dropped, unless Somerset were feeding him so he can play 1st test :hmmm:
ganeshran Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 If Raina fails in the first test then Yuvi might get a look in
Sid Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 and if Yuvi fails in the next test will Raina get a look in again?Raina will play the 1st 2 tests ateast.
sarcastic Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 and if Yuvi fails in the next test will Raina get a look in again?Raina will play the 1st 2 tests ateast. Raina has more or less booked #6 position for himself for the whole series unless he terribly fails in the first two!!!!
