The former South African cricket boss and captain is now leading a retired life away from cricket administration. He's tied up with several other engagements which includes heading Right to Care, a non-government organization, which, through funds from the United States, finances the clinical care and treatment of over 1,25,000 HIV-positive individuals in South Africa each year. That though hasn't forced him to lose touch with the sport. Admittedly a friend of India and Indian cricket, Bacher keeps repeated tabs on the game in the subcontinent, and as the cricketers frustrate their counterparts on the field - and administrators off it in their own particular manner - the bitterness and hypocrisy of their rivals has not escaped his attention. "The boot is now on the other foot. Is that the correct saying," he asks, expressing dismay over how England and Australia, who dominated world cricket for ages, are now acting like the ignorant boy who cried wolf. "Tony Greig has a short memory. No one needs telling that England and Australia have controlled world cricket. I remember at ICC meetings, members from the subcontinent were good listeners. The key decisions were always taken by Australia and England, while the rest remained passive participants," says Bacher, his comments clearly aimed at South African-born Greig's call for an end to India's "domination" of the ICC. "India is not a force in world cricket without a reason. The money is in abundance, they have the biggest cricket market and the hub of world cricket, everyone admits, is India. I cannot figure out why India should not have a key role (in international cricket affairs)," said Bacher, who has now accepted a consultant role with South Africa Tour. From nasser, to atheton, to Donald, to Greig, to all the meida in england etc etc. They have been pathetic, vitriolic and frankly down right direspectful to their guests! Also so glad that in the final day the england team went all mouthy, with around 8 english players(including holier then though Strauss) giving Bhaji(irrelveant wether you like him or not, indian team players aint gonna like one of their own being subjected to that)all kinds of verbal send offs(also they all ran on the pitch). You imagine the whole indin team thinking WTF! Now they will know are in a battle and a war. As per usual we arrived all nice and ghandi like thinking it would be a great trip and good fun cricket. That silliness has been exposed. The minds will have been hardened and am sure they will be so pumped, united and now very determined to shut them up and win! History has shown we deliver at our best when oppo and their cheer leaders hammer the indian team and verbally take it to us. England have made a big mistake(did they not learn from jelly beans gate), as all they have done is poke the sleeping lion and wake him up. The india team will be pereparing and ready to go. In mission SHUT THEM UP! Big backlash coming at Trent Bridge! What's ghandi?

They haven't started poorly for the first time and it probably won't be the last. But it's time to remind those wagging English tongues what they confronted at Lord's and what's in store for them in a series that is just one-Test-old. Can't take anything away from the way England played the first Test, but perhaps they need a Sigmund Freud to shake their subconscious and wake them up to what happened during those five days. Day 1: Zaheer pulls up a hamstring. Day 2: Zaheer ruled out. Day 3: Sachin catches infection. Day 4: Gambhir takes a hit, Dravid has to open, Sachin doesn't field for most part. Day 5: Batting order in a mess. No, these are not excuses but a shake-hand with reality. There's no shying away from the fact that seniors like MS Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh failed miserably in whatever they tried. But still you can't escape the rueful admission that India took a serious hit against an English side on top of its form. Each day brought a bad news. And as MS Dhoni put it, "Everything that could go wrong, did." Though it still won't be India's first-choice XI for the second Test at Trent Bridge, the visitors will have a fully-fit replacement for Zaheer and Sachin back in the pink of health. Come the third Test and Virender Sehwag will return to intimidate and Zaheer back in the swing of things. And there would lay the real 'Test' for the hosts. But who can stop the renowned English jabber. Be it the self-proclaimed technician Geoffrey Boycott, a nit-picking Nasser Hussain or an Ian Botham peeved at not finding a place in ICC Dream Test XI, nobody in England is putting their money on an Indian comeback. The only thing these 'Greats' are doing is fanning the flames of an Indian ire, which may singe England in the games to come.

I would be VERY dissapointed in the players otherwise. Bygones are bygones. Time to focus all that negative criticism into positive energy and righteous anger. Sachin, Lax, Gauti, Dravid and Raina have to show what this batting lineup is capable of. Bhajji has to find some inner strength to bounce back and Ishant needs to realize that Man of the series cannot be a fluke. C'mon boys, Zak or no Zak, show these arrogant POMS that you have a backbone!!!!!
Bumper Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Playing at this level, esp being a #1 team, you dont need a kick up your backside to realize how important it is to win a test match against an opponent that is known to look down up on you. So i dont believe our players are suddenly going to wake up & be fired up. However, the first test would have played its part in getting our players used to the conditions. So that may be a reason why an Indian fan can be optimistic. I dont think the pride of playing for India can be pummeled into a slouch like Bhajji, who has begun to take his place for granted. The reckless shot he played in the 2nd innings and the sheer lack of regret with which he walked after playing that shot should tell you that.

Let's give them back, If we can come back in Perth and Durban we can definitely come back in Trent Bridge. It's payback time, hope our team is as fired up, we saw the glimpse on the 4th day morning, an extra bowler was what needed, also I will somehow play Yuvi, we need characters, remember Sehwag in Perth. He didn't do anything spectacular but people like Yuvi, Sehwag lifts the team. Play Yuvi and ask him whack like Sehwag.

Agreed, that was pathetic and I was really surprised and angry to see the indifference he showed after getting out.
daryl1985 Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I really hope Fletcher makes the squad read the **** that people have been writing about India not being a worthy number one. This India team has been NOWHERE near as dominant as the Windies or Australia but they have played some excellent cricket and have shown a great deal of heart to come back from some tough situations. The odds are against India with Zak's injury and i fear India could lose this test as Anderson is superb at Trent Bridge. However, i really hope that Sreesanth and Praveen Kumar bowl out of their skin and give India a chance of winning the test and levelling the series.

It was huge mistake to go with unfit Zaheer in the match just because he is best bowler and we are relying on him. A fit full bowling attack can always do better than a depleted bowling attack. Had they dropped Zaheer in first test then he might have played rest 3 tests. But now there is doubt that whether he will be available for rest 2 matches or not.
