vipin Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Hi, Dear Friends. Posting here after quite some time. Been through a lot in the time being. I want to ask you, what would you do if you knew you have an year to live at max before your hands and legs give out and you are on a wheelchair. Sounds like a version of that cliche little question about your last day to live .. but the situations' really facing me here. I have been diagnosed of multiple sclerosis with a lesion in my spinal cord and its already f'ing up my hands and legs. What should I keep in mind so I can keep fighting on with life? The medicines though not proven to be very useful cost upward of Rs 20000/ month. And although at the time being I have a job that fetches me abt 60k/month, I could soon be a liability at it. Should I search for a suitable government job that also supports my health expenses. Going through a lot and really want to take suggestions so that I dont regret something later. All of you have been great company and I really want to thank you all for your support.
EnterTheVoid Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 I am not sure I can advise anything meaningful. Just wish you'll get better soon.
zen Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 First of all, it's very sad to hear this. I sincerely hope somehow you get well soon but most importantly don't stop fighting 1. Start out with saving enough money to support your medicine. 2. Look for health plans, if any, that can support your medical expenses. 3. Check to see what the policies are at your current company regarding those under medication. Many companies have quota for employing those with any type of disabilities. May be they could transfer you to another dept. 4. Look for other jobs like in govt. I hope I have been of some help. Best wishes are with you.
vipin Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 Thanks man thanks a lot. I am thinking on these very lines If you meet me now I am as good and jolly a person as anyone around. Just that I wake up every morning, and say to myself.. Oh ****. This is for real.
Stuge Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 very very sad to hear this vipin :(( :(( I know its easier to say ,but I know you will fight it out . I agree with rett .you should find a suitable heath plan which can cover your expenses .
suraj Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Very sad to hear vipin MS has various stages and I really hope you are just in early stage with a very slow progression-like Sree said we can all wish you well only Maybe we can research resources and other information through our contacts that may not be easily available through the net and keep passing on to you; hopefully that serves some purpose atleast At the very least I would say think about best managing the disease ( medical, rehab, lifestyle & occupationally) and talk to other people with similar affliction who have had some success in living with it. All the best!!
Aaku Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Hey vipin ! Its terrible to hear you have gone through so much. I wish you all the strength and really hope you get well! Will def pray for your well being, be strong:icflove:
Yoda-esque Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Its easy for me to say this, but you just HAVE to be STRONG and POSITIVE. These are just a few of the many intangibles that can do great things for the human body and mind. Be cheerful , happy and live it up every moment...and if you ever you feel low, talk to all of us :icflove:
asterix Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Hi Vipin, sorry to know about your condition. I hope and pray, you get well... There are many MS support groups in India which you can join to get advice on various aspects and network with other people having MS. I would suggest you to try Homeopathy treatment, if possible. pinkfreud Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Hi Vipin, It's great that you're looking ahead even though you're faced with such challenges. Rett has given some good suggestions, and a government job does seem a good option. Such a job will also be most likely to help see you through your medical expenses. However, I suggest you ensure whether you can still work for your current company, even if in a different position if they are willing to see you through this tough time. Don't make the switch unless your current job doesn't offer any viable solution, or if support for your expenses seems a distant possibility. As a side note- have you been sticking to traditional treatments, or are you open to holistic treatments like Ayurveda and homeopathy as well? Giving that a shot might help. And if I knew I only had so much time on my hands to make the most of my physical abilities, I'd never take anything for granted, and, as cliched as it sounds- live each day as if it was my last- not because I'm consciously reminding myself of what's to come, but simply because I want to. I know it's easier said than done, but the point is that too many of us fail to understand how much life has to offer. I'm guilty of that too. For everything that's taken from us, we get a little something in return. I've learned that the hard way... and I'm confident you will have the grit to see yourself through this trying phase. Best wishes, and please let us know how you're keeping.
WC2011INDIA Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Hi Vipin. Sorry to hear about your health condition. I wish you a speedy recovery. You are looking for a government job, which is a good idea, but you need to find out if they will ask for your medical reports. That might cause some problems. However, I really hope and pray that everything works out for you. Best of luck.
Mariyam Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Really sorry to hear about your condition. Will pray for you. You can try taking advice form the IIT alumnus. They might have some ideas what kind of work you could get into and be able to guide you better. Be strong.
vaibhav_delhi Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 My two cents: meditation - Be it a comfortable position, sitting or lying down, believe that you are neither your body nor your mind, that you are a supreme being, just watch your body and your thoughts not indulging or flowing with them, but being a drashta(watcher). After sometime and practice, the thoughts will vanish, and you will be in a state of higher awareness and concentration. take your awareness to where the lesion in the spine has been diagnosed our body has tremendous ability to self-heal. imagine blood-flow through that area and imagine that the scar tissue is healing. I am very confident that it will help. loved ones- try and stay with people who love you and care for you, like parents, siblings, wife, friends etc. homeopathy- apart from allopathy, this can help. If you are in delhi I can suggest a couple of very experienced homeopaths. hobbies n interests - they will help you divert the attention from the problem. reading, watching cricket:D, keeping track of current affairs, singing etc etc walk in the park - light walk, twice a day for 30-60 minutes in morning n evening for proper blood circulation. great for both physical n mental health. and general stuff like eating healthy, staying in a pollution free area. take care.

Most important is,not let this take over your spirits. Keeping good spirits is as important as physical wellness in such cases.
Prakat Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 Hi Vipin, Hope you get well soon. Stay positive and be strong! :icflove:
achilles Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 Vipin. Don't expect sympathy from me as it will make you weaker. Instead, let me tell you how to be stronger. 1. Every morning when you wake up, tell the man you see in the mirror- "You know what dude, you are awesome. The best! And the best person is the blessed person. I am going to use my hands and legs today to do a lot of good. I am going to use my hands and legs to help people all my life". 2. Never EVER think of yourself as a liability. Slap yourself hard when you feel sorry for yourself. Weak people feel sorry. Strong people, esp. the ones who get through IIT are fighters. 3. Exercise. Ask your doc about the exercises you can do to improve your condition. 4. Believe in God. He will solve your problems. Remember, he will not confront you with a problem if he doesn't believe that you shall solve it. 5. Work all day as if nothing bad has happened, as if nothing bad will happen. Positivity will ensure a world of good. 6. When going off to sleep, remember all the awesome moments you had today, how someone smiled when you helped, how your parents feel proud of you, how your friends appreciate your efforts, how you girlfriend melts into your arms and how God gave you a brilliant day. Do this everyday. And trust me, your life will change for the better. Also, grab a copy of the secret. Read it. Watch it. Remember my friend, you are awesome. The King of your universe. And you are in charge of your destiny. Make the most of the opportunities you get in a day. And you will succeed in your goals and lead a great life. Andy

Lurker Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 Vipin, Keep up the fight mate. I have read that Vitamind D helps with MS. Easiest way is to get exposure to sunlight. Maybe this autumun/winter you can try sitting in the sunlight, read that cricket book that you always wanted to? Maybe you can have a sit-out in the park with a loved one sipping some tea and just yapping away? It is amazing to see you are keeping your chin up and looking for suggestions. Thats the atitude mate. Keep it up and best wishes.
achilles Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 beautiful @ achilles: very well said. Thanks friends.
