7 overs 6 maidens This is why I was saying we should have played him, at least he could tie up and end and build pressure
you do realize the batting lineup he is playing against right?

He has an economy rate of 2.87 after 11 Test matches, he can bowl long, tight spells even against good opposition.

He has always bowled a tight line and length. But that doesnt mean he is defensive though. He flights the ball and gets some bounce as well. He has done well against Sri Lanka who are very good players of spin and picked important wickets as the second spinner. Unfortunate to have missed out in this tour.

What about players like Cheteshwar Pujara or Mukund whose style is not ideally suited for IPL but for longer formats can be given a go as well.

It will be brilliant for our young batsmen and seamers to play a season or two as well.

Exactly,If BCCI does not want IPL to be impacted, they can maybe identify players who are not flashy enough for T20 but still can be groomed for the longer formats.I am sure county cricket offers lucrative contracts too,so the players won't be missing out a lot and obviously IPL franchises would pay someone like YKP 3 times more than say a Dravid anyways.

Well this was alwasy gong to happen even before India -England series. Before he was called for the England tour to replace Bhajji, he said that he was about to leave in few weeks for England anyway but now would end up leaving quite early.

I dont knowy why every indian fan falls for the myth that county cricket is better than our domestic tournaments...!!!
Whether they are better or not is not the issue. The conditions are much different to India because they offer more to pace bowlers and batsmen need better technique to play them. Playing in those conditions will help young batsmen and bowlers to improve their game and subsequently also help them do well in South Africa, Australia where the ball seams, swings, bounces around a lot more than in India. It also helps spinners because the pitches offer less help and they need to adapt as well. Talent is not just the issue as we have seen plenty of batsmen who have scored thousands of runs in domestic cricket in India come a cropper when they toured overseas. What's important is how they adapt to foreign conditions and if they have the technique and skill to play well there and county cricket goes a long way in helping them do that.

I agree, but the quality of cricket in county mathces are overrated. If they really wanna tour abroad to know abt the conditions, then our board shoud get our emerging players to play in foreign conditions every month.
