Bhai...he has only one problem that is the way he holds the ball in his hand, the grip with crooked thumb, too deep in his palm. It looks like his every ball is a slower ball. Brett Lee balls slower balls with this grip. I do not know why he is so rigid to understand this and is not changing it. The way his grip is, the cannot be accurate all the time and able to generate enough pace with that grip. He may swing it a bit, but without enough pace, it won't matter much.

I see what you're saying. Yes he has probably been doing something similar for a while. But to the casual observer his action itself has changed markedly and it seems to discourage any swing he might get...it seemed too rigid in the IPL. It was a lot freer when he played well for India. Anyway he obviously isn't at ease with it hence the plea to Kapil etc. However it happens, if he wants to move forward the offcutter/slow bouncer rubbish has to go.

One final throw of the dice for irfan can be a county stint. Besides that, I don't see how he can make a comeback with such a great bowling lineup already in place. I mean vinay, aravind, jadeja will require some exceptional effort to displace. On a serious note, I still feel that he is a much much better overall cricketer compared to the three musketeers mentioned above but as a 'strike' bowler he looks fairly done and dusted. He is more of a support bowler/all rounder type player at the moment.

Are people actually realising crapthan is pants. I spotted this yonks ago. People bemoan trundlers, the 75 to 82 mph mob, yet crapthan who is a trundler is somehow ignored that he bowls left arm slow and all kinds of weirrd reasons are given as to why he should be in team. He is not good enough period. And only a year taking steriods and non stop meat eating can save his carrer.

irfan should improve his batting rather than his bowling since he lost his pace and swing if he bats well he can become a all rounder like shane watson and yusuf should concentrate on his bowling to bag the spot of harby since he is unreliable both with the bat as well with the ball

We have so many post's because people are frustrated, possibly as FRUSTRATED as he is. Let us be patient and hope for the best , hopefully he gets a second wind as far as his career is concerned, I hope his career has as dramatic an upswing as Craig White had after his fainting episode.Irfan at his best can be an asset, but he seems far from it.

Irfan Pathan hopes to reclaim the swing NAGPUR: Not so long ago, he was a toast of a nation desperately seeking an all-rounder of substance to step into Kapil Dev's shoes. Much like the former India captain, Irfan Pathan relished performing on the big stage. Be it the Twenty20 World Cup final in 2007 or the tense Perth Test in 2008, the younger of the Pathan siblings has relished pressure-cooker situations and more often than not come out with flying colors. He has struggled ever since as a slew of injuries and indifferent form has taken its toll on a fledging career, but the fit-again Irfan is now raring to go. He just wants to focus on getting his swing and rhythm back. "As a cricketer, you always want to be in action but you can't do anything about injuries. It's frustrating but you need to be patient. I haven't played much in the past one-and-half years. I went through rehabilitation and things have started falling in place. I am fully fit and now looking forward to playing more and more matches to prove my match-fitness," Irfan told TOI. Having played at the top level, Irfan understands the importance of not rushing his comeback. "I need to take it one step at a time. First, I need to make sure that I get my rhythm back and pitch the ball consistently in the right areas. I have never been a tearaway fast bowler. My strength has always been getting the ball to swing. If I can do so, maintaining a speed of around 130-135kmph, I can trouble batsmen," Irfan, who is here to play the Challenger Trophy, said. "This tournament has come at a right time. I need quality matches to test my form and fitness. I am thankful to the selectors for giving this opportunity to me. At the moment I am not thinking too far ahead. If I start worrying about the future, I may put myself under pressure," he said. Asked whether he is worried about having to start all over again, Irfan said, "I have played enough at the top level so I have a fair idea of what I need to do to reach at that level again. To be honest, getting selected for Team India is not on my mind. If I do well on the domestic circuit, I will definitely be considered. With amount of cricket being played these days and frequent injuries to fast bowlers, I need to perform well and keep myself match-fit." Spending time with Team India bowling coach Eric Simons has also helped the left-armer to sort out a few technical issues. "It was great spending time with Simons. He has great work ethic. He has made a few technical points that I have been working on. With TA Sekar back with the Delhi Daredevils, it will only help me to improve. I have always looked up to him for advice," the Baroda all-rounder said. Asked about the country's obsession with pace, Irfan said: "But for Javagal Srinath we haven't produced an out-and-out quick bowler. It has a lot to do with the kind of wickets we have. You need to be smart while bowling on these tracks. Bowlers like Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan have done extremely well in these conditions. Praveen Kumar doesn't have great pace but he is still doing well. At the international level, you have to out-think the batsmen."

I agree, selectors don't watch Domestic cricket or are not aware about bowlers form , we dont have pace bowlers as selectors, both Mithun and if Irfan bowling in 120's are a very poor choice then and hurt these bowlers more then benefit them , as they need to work on their bowling and actions then.

Australia dropped Copeland even after doing well enough to get another game for much faster and inexperienced Cummins and Pattinson. PS: Cummins and Pattinson did not have a single FC 5-fer before their test debuts.
