But it is especially bad when everyone has to stay for a week in some rented vacation home' date=' and on top of that, someone wants to cook rice & daal and puliyaara every meal. Ugh!![/quote'] :cantstop: Made that mistake once..Never again!!!! We had to carry all those utensils,only live in studio rooms in kitchens,search for Pizza Huts only since they have bread sticks and veggie pizza. I mean ,who cooks sambhar rice and Puliyo on a camping trip!! :facepalm:

Nothing against that.But one should enjoy the surroundings and local culture instead of just taking photos in front of some landmark and then hurrying off to cook Rice :winky:

akshayxyz Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 I think it depends upon how you were brought up - if your formative years were spent in a society where statements like this are commonplace - " look at chunnu/munnu, uncle abc's son, you have to be better than xyz, abc..." - then it stays in your subconscious forever - until someone makes conscious effort to change that - and very few people take an effort to introspect and change such habits - or you start living in different society. This kind of comparative 'injections' have been very commonplace in Indian middle class - esp of 80-90s and before. Which is why most of the people you meet, who are most likely from your kind of background/nationality, would still be talking in that familiar vein. Not that it has gone now, but it must have improved %wise.

Oh,I know that guy..(Lots of name dropping ensues) 2) I just bought an Audi (Never mind the fact that he cannot differentiate Engine from Transmission and that he hasnt bothered to even check under the hood) 3) Latest talk on some SRK film which their daughter or son dances to (Demo promptly given on the latest BOSE system) and how great it is or how their son plans to pursue neuro-science 4) The usual GC talk on Priority dates (why didnt u do it in EB1? blah blah) 5) House talk (Oh he bought this house and some back handed compliments regarding the Vastu) 6) Mortgage costs and bank interest rates 7) Some NBA talk (Kobe Bryant) and some NFL talk on how Peyton is better than Tom Brady (invariably some guy will be wearing a NFL shirt) 8) Women all together in another room or basement or kitchen 9) Dont even get me started on the food ! :haha::haha: wow

I mean I would have lovedddddddddddd to visit some of these parties, grab a glass of Mountain Dew (or lassi) and hear a woman talking about her past and men who left and impression on her.... Not sure if I understand you right, but what you mention has nothing to do with the person's nationality. You expect a woman to talk about her past relationships, love affairs and how those relationships/affairs left an impression on her with an absolute stranger?

And taking pictures of landmarks and/or posing next to landmarks is not just a family thing. Almost everyone does it.
