WC2011INDIA Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I pity Zaheer. He has done so much for us as a bowler. But will not get his due because of his own mistakes and the fact that bowlers don't get as much respect as batsmen do in India. I hope he becomes a commentator after retiring and also mentor a few good bowlers.

If he does a good job in mentoring these kids and they bowl us to victories that need not be the case.
Karan114 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Good career and especially fantastic in the last few years, playing a prominent role in our no.1 Test position and World Cup victory. But he's 33 and too injury prone to make a real impact now.
saneindian Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I only have to complete all the formalities of passing the fitness test. I am excited about playing a few first-class games. I have spent the last few weeks at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, was in rehab, worked on my fitness and now I feel good. I have started bowling in the nets. I have to keep going at it for another week or two and I'll be ready for a four-day match. Fantastic. This means he could play about 4 Ranji matches before the Aus tour. Would mean lots of overs and arriviing in Australia in proper shape. Alternatively, the last 2 ODIs vs WI are on Dec 8 and 11, we could see Zak play one of those to test his fitness.

vvvslaxman Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 County cricket played a huge role in his resurgence. He has several times mentioned about it. Wish we have more bowlers take up the county assignment.
Feed Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Zaheer moves a step closer to match fitness More... Zaheer on the road to recovery G VISWANATH By all accounts medium-fast bowler Zaheer Khan is on the road to recovery and set to test his repaired hamstring and ankle in India's domestic first class competition. The 33-year-old who went down with a reported hamstring strain on the first day of the opening Test at Lord's on July 21 after a spell of two for 18 in 13.3 overs has given hints of returning to competitive cricket that will eventually determine his availability for the long tour of Australia set to start in mid-December. Long spell Zaheer bowled for three-quarters of an hour to the Mumbai batsmen including skipper Wasim Jaffer at the Brabourne Stadium, Cricket Club of India (CCI) here on Wednesday. The home team, after extracting six points from Railways in the Ranji Trophy league match against Railways at New Delhi last week, was preparing for its second match against Rajasthan to start on Thursday. Though it was initially reported that Zaheer was nagged by the hamstring of his landing foot (right leg), the BCCI clarified on August 7 that Żaheer Khan is suffering from a recurrent right hamstring strain and a right ankle impingement. He will require a surgery for his ankle followed by intensive rehabilitation for both the ankle and hamstring. He will need at least 14-16 weeks to recover completely.'' He underwent surgery in England on August 18 and was on crutches. He has been training at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. Ū have been bowling like this for almost two weeks. I bowled six overs here today. I am feeling good, but I am only building up (towards match fitness). I have some more time to go. He (Mumbai coach Sulakshan Kulkarni) may be happy, but I am not,'' said Zaheer after giving tips to Mumbai's fringe bowlers. Clearly Kulkarni is happy with the news that Zaheer will be available for two Ranji matches. ũe bowled for about 45 minutes and he looked brilliant. He must have bowled about 36 balls. I am happy with the way he's shaping. He is likely to play Ranji Trophy matches (maybe against Orissa from Nov. 29 to Dec. 2 and against Saurashtra from Dec. 6 to 9) to ascertain fitness.'' Recovering from a freak calf injury while training with the Mumbai team and keen to play a club competition to make sure he's fit, Ajit Agarkar said that Zaheer appears to be working on his rhythm. źes, he looked fine bowling about six overs. Normally you bowl about eight in net sessions. He may not have gone flat out in all deliveries, but he looked better than what I expected of him,'' said Agarkar. Mumbai captain Jaffer said: Ū faced him in the nets today and he looked good. He's slowly building up (towards fitness) and I have also heard that he's looking forward to play the Ranji matches.'' In the rhythm Ū have been bowling like this for almost two weeks. I bowled six overs and it felt good. I am building up (towards match fitness) and have some time to go for that, he said. More than the Australia series, it is Mumbai's Ranji match in Cuttack less than a fortnight away that's on Zaheer's mind. Ū faced him in the nets today and he looked good, said skipper Wasim Jaffer. ũe is slowly building up (towards fitness) and I have heard that he is looking to play the (two) matches. If Zaheer can prove his match fitness against Orissa (at Cuttack from Nov 29) and Saurashtra (at Rajkot from Dec 6), the selectors will have little hesitation in picking him to the squad for the Australia series on December 10.
saneindian Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 A friend of mine watched him at the nets yesterday and says Zak has bloated up even further. Not good signs. Should not be taken to Australia if he is fit but fat. If he isn't in shape, an injury will always be around the corner.
Yoda-esque Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Zak's body must have the recovery rate of a geriatric. Its been 2-3 months already. I think these guys should paste a picture of Fauja in their locker rooms or wherever.
Ravi budhwar Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 if he recovers then it is good for australian tour .
Rightarmfast Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 if he was on crutches then its natural that he would be bloated. He anyways has a body type which puts on fat fast. As I have said earlier also, I do not expect him to be back in international matches anymore. I think his career is towards the *** end.
cowboysfan Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 i dont trust zak to stay fit.make him play atleast 3 ranji matches before even considering for the oz tour.
Karan114 Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 No point relying on an injury prone 33-year old fast bowler...screws up the plans when he hobbles off mid way through a Test. Have to make do with the younger guys - they aren't great but have to persist with them.

The Realist Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Bowling in Aus is tough work with the hard pitches and large ground - need to be physically fit and also have to able to field. Cannot make the same mistakes as in Eng and rely on a 33 year old who in phsyical terms is 40+ is just madness.

Cannot take the players word for it especially ZK's based on what transpired in England.
ravishingravi Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Yeah he is a week away from full fitness and 2 overs away to recovering again. We can forget him. His body will not hold up an entire series.
achilles Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Lol. A hint of competition and the seniors are out and claiming their places again. :hehe:
vamos_rafa Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 he should makethe team if relatively healthy but we should be prepared to losing him at any time and get caught with our pants down.by the way yadav' date='aaron and ishant dont fill me with a lot of confidence.I wonder how PK will bowl on those flat wickets.[/quote'] If Zak ain't fit, then I have no hopes from India'd tour down under. All the hype and hoopla around Umesh and Aaron is okay, but frankly speaking, I DON'T see them as test match material as of now. I know U?mesh improved in the 2nd innings and picked a couple of wickets, but to expect that in Australia is a far far cry IMO.
