msb1991 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Aaron should not play Test cricket, imo. Yadav earned his spot through good performance in the relevant format. Aaron has done nothing of note in FC cricket over any sustained period of time. He is poorer in the longer format of the game, as seen in the Irani Trophy.
mani0993 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 He shouldn't play in the third test as Ishant is the man who will play the test matches down under. So what's the pt. in breaking the sync ? Also, Ishy is out of rhythm. Not very impressive, so third match will be crucial for him.

If they had pick any bowler on FC performance, they would have picked Pankaj, Vinay, Jogi, Bose, etc., but selectors wanted some pace in the bowling line so they have picked him and he did well in the 2 ODIs he has played, so he deserves his chance in test as well now. I am enforcing that he is picked based on potential and not FC performance for test squad and we should look at him that way.
msb1991 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Give me a contemporary example of a fast bowler who has been picked based on First Class bowling performances both in the long term and the short term (good career record and good last season performance) for the Test team who has done overwhelmingly poorly?
zen Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Let's have Aaron and yadav bowl together .... Hopefully, we can also built a healthy rivalry b/w them so they look to out perform each other. This will keep them motivated

msb1991 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Would be good to see in ODIs, though I do think Yadav struggles in that format, but please not in Test cricket. They bowled together in the Irani Trophy and Aaron was poor.

Indian cricket history is full of those examples in the last 15-20 years. But who said a good FC performer cannot do good, but you also need to see if some one has what it takes to be successful at international level to become a strike bowler. We do not need stock bowlers that is why Aaron is picked for his pace which he showed against England that he has something in him to be that kind of a bowler.
msb1991 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Sami is 'fast' so does not fit the discussion. Moreover, his First Class record is only slightly above average. Especially if you consider the low scoring nature of a lot of Pakistani domestic FC games.
cowboysfan Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 ishant needs to get in form for the OZ tour, aaron can wait.
vamos_rafa Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 thats One reason why Dhoni fails as a CAPTAIN outside INDIA specially on pacy tracks... ganguly supported PACERS and dhoni supports only spinners. we r lucky that UY got 7 wicekts in 24 overs..that was tremendous bowling ...good that he has kind of got a ticekt to AUSTRALIA..that will be the place wheere he will make a career. And what's your sample set to say that? He has captained India on 4 abroad tours namely, WI,NZ,SA and England. He won 2 and drew 1. The England tour was a disaster but would you attribute it to him and only him?
Trichromatic Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Team should give chance to Aaron and Rahul Sharma in last test. After that it would be good to play them along with Abu Nechim, PK and Ojha in ODI series.
Hell Raiser Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Aaron should get a a chance in the final test and Rahul sharma as well.

He was just unlucky with drop catches and umpiring decision going against him. He had bowled decently if not very good.

I actually I do not seen any.
Trundler27 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 The only way to get Aaron in the 11 for mumbai is to drop one of the spinners (ashwin) since ishant and umesh have done well as a new ball attack and by having 3 quicks, dhoni can manage the workload more effectively (all of this is under the assumption that the mumbai track is condusive to quick bowling). Actually I wouldn't mind if Aaron did not play in Mumbai coz he will surely get ops in the odi's following this series and will also get a chance in the 2 warm up games in australia prior to the first test.

Mcgrath could touch 140kph but nowhere near consistently bowled that speed in Test cricket.

I can take a medium pace left armer. I differentiate left armer and right armer. Ambrose was not pacy, are you kidding. He was 6 feet 7 inch tall and and could easily bowl quick. I am not talking about Lee or Akhtar's pace here. I am talking about around 140K which certainly was and with that height of 6 feet 7 inch. You must be kidding if you were say9in Ambrose was not quick, remember his Perth spell. He was not just quick he was frightening to say the least. You gave all three examples wrong. Vaas was a left armer. Ambrose and Walsh were two real tall bowlers. That is why I most often talk about ingredients and not just pace. Height is one of the ingredients for a fast bowler.
BeautifulGame Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Well Pollack is one bowler who was certainly only medium fast and a great.
