:fail: Lol if you have never played any games before, it doesn't matter man. You could be happy with a 1990 atari.

Ok....Here is the thing...Few years back hardcore gamers used to prefer the xbox360 over PS3 because xbox had better games on it's platform where as people who are not avid gamers bought the PS3 for the blu ray player... Now that is no longer the case as 99% of the game companies design for both platforms But here is another thing if you would want to use Xbox for services like Netflix than you have to go for the gold membership which costs 50-75 bucks. Where as in Ps3 the netflix app is free and also keep in mind that the ps3 processer is really fast which enables you to browse online faster...all in all it acts like a mini-computer. Now since you said you are interested in motion gaming....the Kinect is the best in the market....way better than the ps3 move and Wii but there are not too many games in the market for them anyways but the few available games are awesome definetely. If you have kids and are making the purchase keeping them in mind and motion gaming is your requirement you can also consider the Wii as it is way way cheaper. but as far as I know you can't play DVD's on the Wii. I don't know if they have it available in the newer versions though but they have file sharing and netflix capabilities. So weigh in your options

Netflix and all that jazz dont work here. PS3 is a better console hardware wise, so more future proof. Xbox has kinect which is phenomenal, PS3 cant match it. If you are more interested in motion gaming, get the 360, but keep in mind that your buying it late in its lifecycle.

PS:I own or owned all 3 systems...Don't have the 360 anymore...gave it to my nephew but I swear by the ps3....games,netflix,blu-ray movies and also stream movies through my PC..you can do this through the xbox also... You outgrow the WII very fast.....Kinect too the novelty wears off pretty fast atleast for me and I don't use the Playstation move at all,so if you ask me I would endorse the ps3.

Agree but Motion gaming novelty wears of very fast as I mentioned....I hardly use the Wii or the Wii fait....even guitar hero for the matter of fact, for long tem use ps3 definetely. Also keep in mind the Op is not an avid gamer and has never owned a console before and the fact is when you are willing to spend so much money for this, you need to take into account a lot of factors.

Also forgot to mention ps3 now supports 3d movies and games as well once you install the new firmware....haven't tried this as I don't have a TV that supports this

Both have + and - If you are more into motion gaming then Xbox kinect is the way to go. My suggestion would be to wait for another 2 years and get the xbox 3. That will have everything. Blu-ray, 3D, better graphics, better motion control gaming etc.

I have 250GB Xbox Slim + Jtagged with Kinect Benefits: Download games + play PAL Games ( PS3 is region free by default ) so you can play cricket but with PS3, the downloads are huge and if you have to invest in Blue Ray Disc Run Emulators I play of internal and external hard drive, no need to burn disc

Till last month, I was in the same situation as you, dumdumdigadiga, i.e never really played/owned video/computer games before. I bought the Xbox Kinect and the game Dance Central 2. For a week I played everyday for 1-2 hours. But I'm already bored of it. Once the novelty factor wears off, the Kinect is quite boring.
