Serious cause for concern

Looking at the team's performance, Gambhir looks woefully out of sorts. One of the biggest reasons for the team not scoring well is we are not getting good starts, in England as well as here. He seems to be struggling against balls bowled outside off stump, like Yuvraj did and it pretty much ended his career. He is also not very comfortable against short pitch bowling. I dont know what the hell happened to Laxman. He is looking completely clueless in foreign conditions and doesnt seem like he could score any runs. In the short innings he played, he didnt look comfortable against the pacers and looked like getting out any minute. His usual timing is not there. No.6 has always been a problem. I never thought Ganguly was a good enough batsman in tests. His replacements have been even worse though. Raina in England and now Kohli in Australia dont seem to be good enough for the big league. Maybe Rohit is the one we are looking for. Sachin looked great with his timing during the time he spent at the crease in both innings. Dravid struggled a bit but he made a good contribution in the 1st innings and so did Sehwag. So they are fine. Before this tour, I thought bowling would be a big problem. But with Umesh Yadav and Zaheer bowling brilliantly and Ashwin and Ishant giving good support, the attack looks good. The batting is letting the team down though.
i will say tht if batters are making 30-40 here..they are playing good..anything above 60 means they are class..it is not like sub continents wickets..our bowling attack needs to put more presusre..i hope tht they learn pretty soon

The batting has been seriously disappointing. Gambhir, Laxman, Kohli and Dhoni failed in both innings while Sehwag and Dravid were also poor in the 2nd innings. The batting is nowhere near as used as it was 2-3 years ago and we are vulnerable to good bowling. As much as i like him, Gambhir's place in the test team is under threat. Tendulkar looks to be in good nick and i think we have to hope that he keeps up his form and 1 other batsman is able to support him in each test. Our bowling was a real positive in this match. Zak and Yadav were superb while Ishant and Ashwin were decent. We need to massively improve our batting in the next match otherwise the series will be over before we know it. On a side note, it was disappointing to see the reaction of our supporters on this forum to defeat. We should learn to accept defeat with a bit of grace. We were beaten by the better side in this match and batted terribly. Whenever a team wins a match, their fans are bound to gloat, we just have to accept this rather than becoming abusive and turning it into a childish internet slanging match.

Batting is definately the main concern, players like Ghambir, Kohli and Sehwag are used to playing their shots where as in these conditions you need the mental strength and energy to concentrate on each delivery and watch the bowl closely as all of Australia's bowlers were getting swing and Sehwag especially needed to adjust his "natural game" and be more careful. Laxman still gives you the confidence he will do well and deserves the rest of the series to prove himself again. It wont solve all problems but Rohit could come in for Kohli and Rahane for Ghambir if he fails at Sydney.

Drop Kohli Not cause he failed but because of his chetiya attitude. After being given out lbw or any other way, NO INDIAN, ABSOLUTELY NO INDIAN, should stand their and moan and bitc.h after we decline to use DRS. The idiot was standing there like a dumbass. Drop his ass!!!!!!

Have patience. We have improved from england tour. Our bowling has come on and the selectors dropped Bhajji while grooming new bowlers. With the batting it is a tough issue because the names are too big and they can do what they want. This is still our best batting lineup. I think we need a new coach tbh. The players haven't performed since Fletcher's arrival. Kirsten brought the best out of them. B atsmen are so used to playing on flat tracks and don't put in the hard yards abroad. Coach is to blame. Bring Rohit in for Kohli. I am not surprised we can't finish the tail. ZK and Yadav can do it but Ishant can't. You need all 3 seamers to take wickets. Can't wait till PK or Sree is back. That will improve the team. Jokers like mithun and vinay for back up, what the hell.

bowling was positive only in one thing that they took 20 wickets..but still...they should have wrapped up the oz innings early..and these pitches are not like subcontinent wickets...team would get out below 100 also and no surprises..this is typical test cricket..of those by gone eras

Best way to come out of the blemishes in this game is start afresh from the scratch. We are known to **** up the first match anyways and that wont change, we just have to nip it in the bud and concentrate on the Sydney test. There should be a just one changes for the next game, that is Rohit instead of Kohli.

We cannot drop Kohli, he is the future, I don't blame him at all for the loss, I blame all the senior batsmen. Yes he had tough test so what this is his first test there, what about all the other experienced batsmen who had been there so many times and still repeat the same mistakes and then come out and give same lame excuses. Bowlers who have the least experience had done their job which they have been doing to large extent but batting with all these rock stars who have never performed well collectively to match the hype they get are to be blamed here. Let us get youngsters in and let them face the fire. All these senior batsmen fire once in a blue moon anyways and these youngsters will at least gain some experience. They will be lively on field and fielding will improve and help bowlers out more than these old gits . We will be rebuilding for future, these youngsters have already shown guts to perform at home in odis which seniors never showed when they were starting. So when losing is guaranteed let us give them experience and hope they are not these eternal screw ups like our rock stars.

Sad thing is he didn't even show any intent. Pitch was not that difficult to bat on. If you look at how Ishant and ashwin batted in both innings you'll see. Leaving balls outside off, good defense.

Kohli should be dropped. You were plumb lbw. FKER get off the pitch and stop moaning and whining. NO use of complaining when it your team and ur pathetic board who declined the use of drs in the first place. And the captain gives excuses like oh it's part and parcel of the game. He's fine with it.

if we get one 75-100 run opening partnership, we are set for the series... otherwise we are doomed.. this batting order is not going to work with half the batters are not in form..... i would go with.. GG RD SRT VVS Veeru Rohit sharma Dhoni

Kohli is not test class material. He will not survive on these tracks. He was exposed in WI and he will be brutally exposed here too. The thing I fear is...after this series...we will be playing 2 years at home and the likes of Kohli might score few runs and then the fans will forget about the Aussie series.

I advocate Viru going to middle order. Against the old ball he'll be good.

Sehwag needs to be dropped for his reckless shots. Even in the first innings...he played the same shot to which he got out in the second. He was lucky that Hussey dropped him in the first...still does not learn to respect opponents and conditions. We don't need that attitude. I want the Sehwag of old...who gave the first hour of the morning session to the Aussie bowlers...waited for the ball to get 15 overs old and then ripped into the bowling. He has totally stopped thinking about his batting. So damn frustrating!

There was no inside edge. The bat hit the pad. He was plumb in front. Even if that was an inside edge, what's the point of moaning? That's double standards especially when your team refuses to use the DRS system.

Leaving balls outside off' date=' good defense.[/quote'] How did Dravid look in his first series in Australia, why are we holding these youngsters to higher standards and letting seniors off the hook. Give him some time he will come good in tests too he has come good in odis,he can be our first slipper for future now he is patrolling boundaries to compensate for senior players. If anybody has to be dropped for Rohit Sharma it should be one of the senior batsmen. One of these guys will score some meaning less hundred later in the series when nothing is on the line and continue to take away chances from these youngsters. These senior players had enough chances to show what they are capable off for last 15 years and they have always faltered when they needed to show up. Everybody was saying the same about Dravid being dropped from odi squad, we have been just fine, we cannot be any worse than what we are in tests with youngsters in the team.

dont worry guys, everyone knows we are slow starters in a series. its a 4 test series so expect us getting in groove and full steam and firing on all cylindrers by the time the 4th test starts.
