CG Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Ishant Sharma had a great debut season as so many indian fast bowlers bursting into limelight in perth test in india's tour of australia 2008 and even had succees in india ,His main strength was even on dead indian pitches he nipped the ball off the seam considerably and when the odd ball straightened it was a nightmare for right handed batsman even on dead indian tracks this was the time when he had a good seam position and whippy wrist action. AKWt_9cy_J0 After australia's tour of india where he was man of the series as one of the best bowlers in world cricket. He continued to average close to 30 till 2010 but then he had a few years where He lost a bit of pace and was inaccurate, even in southafrica on helpful conditions he struggled,Nowadays his seam position was erratic and often he would lose his line . After coming from southafrica where he underperformed on helpful conditions he worked on getting his pace up and not trying to copy zaheer khan action and went back to his natural length which was short of length and his increase in speeds were noticeable in ipl where he clocked 150km/h+ and after that he had a great series against westindies with his refined action which led to his second man of series performances,With his new action his bouncer became potent and his speed was also up to mid 140's.But with his new action he gained accuracy but lost on swing or seam movement in which was his strength and against a good english batting line up he toiled hard but without much result and he is back to where he started in australia and is bowling quicker than ever but he is up and down and the ball is not swinging as much as it did due to his seam position and wrist action so good batsman are able to deal with him. maverick451 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 From an Englishmans point of view after watching him last year, he bowls too short to get alot of wickets and also doesnt really nip the ball away. If he worked on bowling a fuller length he'd be more succesfull.
ShanS Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Dunno what's wrong with him technically, but becoming Iisshhaanntt isn't helping him either.

BeautifulGame Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Today the pitch flat and he troubled the batsmen most.Thought he bowled better than Zaheer and Umesh. But the real problem is our batsmen are putting too much pressure on the bowlers with their pathetic display again and again. If we had scored something around 400+ in 1st innings then we would have seen a totally different Ishant or Yadav for that matter as well. But when we have to defend scores like 200 again and again due to our pathetic batting efforts then they are right under pressure to pick wickets quickly balls. So they try too much which results in easy boundary balls. Also no point analyzing his faults. He will play all 4 tests anyway and is going to have a break after that due to the operation. Then we have only tests in India for nearly 2 years. So he has lot of time to work on his bowling and length. Also the good thing is he will play alongside Styen in IPL.Hopefully he can pick up what adjustments to make in his length.
rkt.india Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 To be true, Ishant's start was just about one spell to Ponting. He never picked many wickets whether he swung the ball or not. He always lacked the knack of picking up wickets but has always been capable of bowling hostile spells to put batsmen under pressure. Because of his inability to take the ball away from the batsmen consistently and into the left hander has hindered his ability to take wickets. Bowling wide of the crease does not help too.
f.b.m Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 ^Pretty much sums it up. Cant believe that he (or the people around him) havent realized this. If he bowls well, he is always the kind of guy who is 'unlucky' and doesnt get too many wickets. Even in Perth, he bowled 9 overs of quality bowling, but still got just one wicket. If he doesnt bowl well, he'll bowls short and wide thrash that gets smashed.

The only thing he will pick up in the circus league is how to get drunk and laid - which isn't a bad thing. Steyn himself thinks that the tournament is a joke. :giggle:
adi B Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 i am pretty sure he`ll do well in perth, its more like the wickets in windies..... what ishant rely is only on bounce nd if the ball comes back in, till now nothing like that happening, he`ll pick wickets at perth.... but in long term his problem is , he aint got brains, he doesnt know what to bowl, when to bowl ,where to bowl at differnt batsmen.......sorry to say, he is useless
The Realist Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Sharma has no brains, its been apparent for ages. He has not improved since his debut 4 years ago, does not know how to outthink batsmen or set them up. Just runs in like a headless chicken bowling a boundary ball every over. In limited overs cricket he is even worse and gets smacked around with ease. The stats don't lie - he is a mediocre bowler.

Pak_Fan_4_Eva Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Pretty unimaginative bowler. Doesn't like to experiment. Over-rated by many Indian fans to unimaginable proportions! Beats me what was ever right with him in the first place.

EDIT: Anyone who saw that Aus tour of India in 2008 would agree that Sharma has massive potential.

He has been carted all over the ground by every opposition team to date.
express bowling Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 But he never translated those advantages to his success. He has been carted all over the ground by every opposition team to date. He needs a good bowling coach as he does not have the ability to learn by himself. That is his only chance to improve.
CG Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 He needs a good bowling coach as he does not have the ability to learn by himself. That is his only chance to improve. Its a shame we have eric simmons as bowling coach when he cannot even improve a bowlers seam position,Ishant came in to test crikcet with a bad seam position under venky he learned to keep the seam up thus allowing him to swing the ball,He even learned the slower ball from venky and used it to good effect in tests but now he is not using any variations and his sema postion is worst ,We need to sack eric simmons first.
prashsenga Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Saw two overs from Ishant .. finally and total rubbish. just not bowling in the corridor of uncertainity. The pitch is no batsmen paradise if pitched in the right areas. there are just three ways our guyz are bowling. t00 full outside off stump, or wide outside off stump or sliding down leg.. the first and third variety are sure shot 4 balls while the second one is a harmless dummy ball... ishant truly sucks..
goose Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Inability to get ball to shape away from right-hander.
Yoda-esque Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 The apt question would be "Whats right with him??"
