SRT definitely lacks wisdom. I dont know if someone has ever told this to him.
I don't think he lacks wisdom. I just think he over thinks everything. Come on the guy who literally thinks about everything on a cricket field, wrong or right, and then improves it off the field, must have thought about his retirement. In an ideal world, after we won the World Cup, he knew that he won't play till the 2015 world cup. He thought maybe if he only plays odis overseas, then it would ease the transition phase. Unfortunately with the drubbing we received in England and on this tour, it changed everything. I'm pretty sure he thought about retiring from Odis on this tour a year earlier. The 0-4 loss in England will mean that he won't retire until we play England in November. As for the clowns in this thread saying that he's selfish and he will play the Asia cup, he WILL not play the Asia cup. If he was selfish, he would have played the England and the WI odis at home. For Odis, I hope/believe that this is Sachin's last series. For Tests, England series is the last.

Kapil retirement talk was initiated almost instantly' date=' right after [b']Phil SImmons swatted him to cow corner for a six like a fly. It was embarrassing to see a great bowler like Kapil getting treated like that. I always grew up seeing Kapil as a very very difficult bowler to go after in ODIs. Dean Jones knew that better than anyone else. He was deadly accurate. But Simmons had enough time to step to the offside and smacking him for six over long leg. Most of the people thought Kapil should retire not because he was taking place of another youngster but because they didn't want to remember him that way.
I think it was Clayton Lambert.....that makes it even more embarassing....atleast Simmons was half-decent int the Tom Moody mould

Wow....we have one decent batsman in recent times in Kohli and the entire focus is on SRT being a liabilty after one real bad series(infact the series is not over yet)....We deserve our Jaddus,Koomars,Rohit Sharmas(even though still there is hope there),Pappu and all the IPL heroes we have had in recent times The hatred on this forum by some posters or so called fans for SRT just seems more personal than actual love for the well-being of Indian cricket

Nope phil simmons. Etched in my memory. even that shot :cantstop: . It was such a sorry sight. Kapil had set such high standards that we couldn't even watch that. But looking at some of our current bowlers they are not even at the rock bottom level of Kapil.

Actually Phil Simmons was a weird kind of player. He was very natural and could come up with shots out of nowhere. Once in a game picked 5 wickets or so against Sri Lanka if I remember, used to take blinders as a fielder too. He followed the legacy of Desmond Haynes, Greenidge and was almost bogged down by that. Had he played 10 years later, West Indies would most likely have played him more. Him opening with Gayle would have been something else. Speaking of 5 wickets once Courtney Walsh took 5 of those for 1 runs against Lanka, that was something else.

Kahne ka matlab 2 series. Kaun sa bhukamp aa gaya. :nono: Look at the silver lining. We never lost 8 matches straight, now we have. Record bana ke nahin??

I remember Kapil's retirement. It was mid-way during the ODI series vs WI. The ODI was being played in North India and there were chants of 'Kapil hai hai". This was probably the first time the 'Kapil hai hai' chants were heard (ppl were used to 'Shastri hai hai') .... Next thing we know is Kapil retires. After those chants, he probably was quick to realize that his time was up.

an avg less than 40 is usually considered as a failure (esp. with Dravid avg 75+) link ^ your comment is like saying it is not the greatest benchmark but Ishant and Sree were 2nd and 3rd best bowlers And good to see PK's bubble bust (trundler) :P

Ok....now here is the combined Aus + Eng series averages...yes,his average is less than 40 but if you look at the list there were 10 other batsmen tried (I have excluded Mishra,Ashwin and even Saha)but he is the 2nd highest rungetter...so there are 8 more batsmen in the pecking order before we can even talk about him retiring...Also to look at this the other way he is still outperforming 90% of his fellow batsmen,so why should he be axed or contemplate retirement. You might say VVS Laxman is 3rd on that list....now if you sort out by Average he is 4th behind Kohli Dravid and Mishra(who doesn't count) and Kohli did not play in the England series were everyone struggled and Dravid finished below SRT in the Australian series also exposing a rare chink in his technique,so which means in both the series he has been a consistent performer in the given circumstances SO there are a lot of other heads which need to be rolled before even the thought arises of scrutinising SRT. As far as PK goes I am happy too that his bubble has bust but going by the last test series he played he still needs to be given another go at test cricket and not be judged by his performance in the ODI series.

You can expect an upcoming batsman to play like that. If someone with over 180 tests plays like this, you know the "expiry date" is near .... Same goes for other seniors. They don't get marks for toping amongst mediocre performances

As far as SRT occupying a slot goes...In most insignificant-ODI series played in recent times he has been rested.... As far as playing in Australia let us assume for a moment that he is playing for a record like most haters would say, don't you think it is good to have a seasoned pro in the squad guiding and mentoring youngsters who would be playing a WC there in 3 years .I clearly don't see Sehwag as a 'mentor' material and Gambhir hasn't played in Australia enough to fill that role. Hopefully that puts things into perspective

This is what Tendulkar's "success" has been reduced to these days - an average in the 30s. Isko fan boys kehte hain bhagwaan ne qile fateh kiye!:hysterical:

We do - Kohli, Rahane, Rohit, and Pujara are 4 batsmen who can give you a better overall output over the next 5 years than Tendulkar.

There is always something called transition.....If you have a decent house which needs upgrade you don't bulldoze the whole thing into the ground and start rebuilding from scratch

we could have done the 'transition' a few months ago .... the house is already bulldozed :winky:
