Guess it was because of his last innings' date='In india we just do things nothing is planned,As Selection commitee did not have guts for changing the players they changed the vice captainship.Seriously with these type of selectors indian cricket will just go in one direction that is down.[/quote'] Very sensible :two_thumbs_up:

Only great decision this selection committee has taken in years and now I have they stick with him for long unlike they have played musical chairs with Veeru and Gauti.I also hope Virat gets to kaptaan RCB full season this year instead of Vettori facepalm.gif,he will gain some more experience of Kaptaani.

Amid all this discussion of Kohli's promotion, I got the thought of one mr. raina being touted as captaincy material until recently and IIRC he was even asked to captain the team for the Windies ODI's..... so VK has bypassed gambhir, sehwag, and raina now.... Imagine the type of attitude he will get in the dressing room!!! Kapil recently said on tv that in the Indian dressing room it has always been the case of seniors acting like bosses.... so all the best to VK!! Our team is in such a mess right now that the VC appointment seems to be the last thing on my mind even though it has the potential to destroy our team's unity and can potentially create lobbies like those in the paki team

I feel more for Kohli than Gauti. Normally vice captains don't do anything. But with Dhoni you never know :cantstop: . Whenever he wants a rest he would have himself banned for slow over-rate (kidding). Hope it doesn't come to a situation where Virat has to lead the side. Gauti/Kohli are both on good terms from whatever i have seen.

Good decision imo. Gambhir is not a captaincy material. It's better to groom Kohli. I don't think this will have any negative effect on Kohli's batting.

True Gambhir just doesn't have the temperament for captaincy. From what I've seen of his leading KKK he tends to loose his cool quite easily, and is not averse to showing his discontent to his fielders. I wonder what he's like in the dressing room. To be a captain one needs to be calm, composed and collective. Temperament is a huge deal for any successful captain. The one captain who was not known for being a cool and calm customer was Ponting. And his captaincy record is there for all to see. So Virat does need to do a bit of soul searching, mend his ways and I'm sure he can be quite successful.

Pls note Gambhir has been the only KKR captain to take them to knockouts and do keep in mind it's the same dysfunctional franchise where McCullum didn't know what to do while captaining and was literally in tears in one of the post match interviews. Gambhir is hot headed but passionate and aggressive at the same time, and hates losing - all good qualities, and what we've seen of him while captaining India he's a decent captain.

From a temperamental perspective i don't see any difference between Kohli, Gauti. Both are hardcore fighters. Both don't back away from a fight. Both are aggressive.

People forget Gambhir had a horrible series with the bat in tests....don't mix up ODI and Tests....So if we think Dhoni's test position is jeaporady so is Gambhirs. Let us take all our bowlers out of the equation as we are never sure of having a bowler for sure in the starting line up--Zak included.....that leaves us with Dhoni,3 seniors who are on their way out,Viru and Gambhir whose test spots are in jeaporady so that leaves us with Kohli....what is so hard to see here...

In ODI's the only 2 guys who seem to have an eternal spot in the starting line up VK and Jaddu should be considered...We don't want our VC to fall under rotation do we? Also to add Raina's spiral is also pretty sad...wasn't he at one point of time the next in line???

Interesting that you'd bring up McCullum. As a captain he was loud and downright embarrassing which may have been why he was leading KKK keeping in mind who the team owner was. Anyways he's a rather awful example of anything to do with captaincy.

My point was there were plenty of captains including Ganguly who failed to do anything with such a dysfunctional franchise whereas Gambhir was at least able to turn it around year 1.

Gambhir might not even be in the 2015 team his play is so erratic. He has 8 crap matches and 1 good one. Kohli will be a fulcrum of the team for the future.

Excuse me? Kohli and his flukey innings describe this situation much more than Gambhir.

Kolhi and flukey? Do not go in the same sentence! The lad has done well everywhere in the ODIs.

Gambhir criticized the captain in a press conference. You don't get to stick around in the hierarchy for long after that.
I think the problem was his missing the windies series due to the injury in IPL where he delayed rehabilitation. Hasnt been named captain after that even in Dhoni's absence.

Yes, but Gambo ain't erratic at all! Which was what the poster was alleging.
