Khalpat Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Irfan Pathan is the obvious choice. For me an allrounder can not be a spin bowler, exception is if he is not something like Warne, Kumble or Murli. If he is just a part time bowler who can bowl only either to complete 50 over quota or exploit the rough, he is not an all rounder.
maniac Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Irfan Pathan.....Very good bowler on his day and seems naturally classy with the bat...leagues above his brother,Jaddu and what the hell is Raina doing in this list???
jonas10 Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Raina is the best fielder and batsmen. His bowling is average like the other 3. He gives us a good offbreak option.
Switchblade Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 From a very limited field it has to be Irfan Pathan may not have developed as he should have but at least can bat, bowl and field to a decent standard. Jadeja should be kept as far away from the team as possible. A talentless hack who can either bat or bowl yet somehow has become the favourite of Dhoni & selectors and always plays despite some dreadful performances in Australia. Makes you miss the days of Ajit Agarkar Sadly there is no true all-rounder on the horizon anywhere. +1
ZodiaC Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Irfan is easily the best we have regardless of all his shortcomings.
bajrang Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 irfan can bat, ashwin can bat, PK can bat, why da F do we need all-rounder?? play a proper bowler who can bowl 10 overs. if 6 proper batsmen and these 3 cant put a decent total then one extra jaddu aint going to put it either.
GautiMaan Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 Jaddu and what the hell is Raina doing in this list??? I have given my reasons in my post. You are free to suggest anyone else:regular_smile:
GautiMaan Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 One vote for Jadeja.. what is Dhoni's id on ICF?? :--D :cantstop: Two votes now.looks like jadeja is an icfer too:haha:
Ultimate_Game Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I would go the "horses for courses" approach and have Yusuf as the premier all-rounder in the team in subcontinent, and Irfan in Aus, SA and Eng (especially on seaming/bouncy pitches). But in this Asia Cup I would play both of them to have a deep batting lineup.
AfghanCricFan Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I would take Irfan, because India needs a a fast all rounder, there are dozen spin options for India but they lack force in bowling department especially when it comes to all rounders
nballa Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 rohit sharma and suresh raina are working towards getting pretty round. romesh powar too is someone who is pretty round all over. they all all possible candidates for the all-rounder position.
chainsmoker1985 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 So much support for irfan' date='but how useful is he in the subontinent? At his pace he will get carted around. We played well enough in the world cup with 7 batsmen.[/quote'] I think you need 2 realize what a genuine all-rounder means, a genuine batsman and a genuine bowler and a decent fielder. Irfan Pathan (at the moment) is the only one who fits the category of a 'genuine all-rounder'. Rest all are too weak in one department or the other. R Ashwin is another one who fits the category of all-rounders. Yusuf says he won't change his style of batting. Problem is not his style but his level of standard of batting, he needs to improve that. He has a very limited game for an international player. Rest all are also bits and pieces players. But, Jadeja is no-where an international level player. He is there in the team only due to his IPL commercial value, not coz of his performance. I am surprised that you have kept Suresh Raina in the all-rounders category. Again you need 2 realize bro- what does an all-rounder mean.
Old guy Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 suresh raina is not all rounder but i will keep him in my odi team good finisher ,gr8 fielder, and with yuvraj not in team he is lefty so better for balance and also can accelrate very quickly unlike others who need atleast 5-6 overs
akshaywekhande Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Easily Irfan followed by Yousuf & raina will play as a specialist batsman; but will never take jadeja whether it is asia cup or any other tournament . . . It amazes me how even 8.11% people have voted for jadeja ! ! !

True enough, irfan is the only one who can be said to be a genuine allrounder. But the others can fit the bill when the conditions don't suit irfan or if he runs into bad form.
