Yes. Forum probably needs be bit more organized. I have been noticed that many forums follow a certain way of organizing which remains good for even years. Any suggestions for ICF?
Reddit's interface is one of the best models of online discussion forums with myriad of topics and millions of users. And still it is not difficult to find good topics, posts, comments - and trolls are also able to enjoy their time there. But it would take quite some effort to move ICF to such interface, and a bit of learning curve for users. But, it would be well worth it in longer term - esp. if the # of active users is constantly increasing in foreseeable future. (IIRC Reddit code is free to use).

ICF is not an exclusive or elitist club for posters to pontificate and pass judgement on the quality of posts.Nobody here is a cricket expert.So stop taking yourselves so seriously. There is nothing wrong in posting less than 10 chars or criticizing players as long as attacks do not get too personal. This forum works better than most other forums I have seen.Nothing to change here.

Can we have some stats on # of smilies used per post - esp in cricket-talk section? Having seen the live action for quite some time, I know who are the usual suspects, but cold numbers would be helpful. Sense of humor - there is no universal definition of sense of humor. What one group finds funny at a given time and context, may not be as funny for someone else, other group - and vice versa. So, let people laugh at whatever they find funny. And there is always a report-abuse button, that can be used for sick/derogatory/offensive remarks. And not to mention, one always have an option to ignore.
let me check cricinfo.

There are multiple trolls that have infected ICF these days 1) Bhakts who jump on anything and everything and starts defending their heroes 2) Haters who waits for any opportunity to rile up bhakts .. 3) Trolls who try to act humorous by acting as supporters of much hated players. 4) Some troll-kids who write nonsense just for the sake of trolling.. :popcorn:
:hysterical: we have quiet a few of them

++ all the members need to do here is REPORT the DAMN POSTS if its insulting. It's not freaking hard. You report the posts and the mods will do the job.

O bhai loag.. Why so serious.. These things happen in forums..especially when no interesting series going on. Just wait for IPL to start, everything will be fine. However, it'll help if there's some 'visible' presense of Mods/Admins, just to let the new/troll members know, who are in-charge here.. Rajiv used 'let his presence felt'..He's been AWOL for long. I hope everything is okay..

Alright, in all seriousness can YOU (read the posters) do something about this? Start with maybe the following: a) Stop questioning moderation. The MODS do a fabulous job of maintaining a website with 100s of active users. You dont pay them, they take time off their life and work to keep this website clean. Maybe instead of opening a thread every 2nd day questioning xyz about moderation you can perhaps open a single thread once a quarter thanking them for giving all of us a platform where we rewind from daily grind and make new friends? b) Stop asking to ban xyz. If a person crosses the line bring it to the MODS, why act as judge, executioner and the jury?? We have all been there where lines have been crossed. c) Have a sense of humor. And be prepared to receive as much as you diss out? I have done my share of name calling and have been called by names, including by MODS themselves ( :cheer: ) but we had a laugh and moved on. Why take it to heart? Its all banter anyway and doesnt pay your paycheck. Keeps things in perspective. d) Just have a fun about it all. Stop being so serious. :)
good post your second point is too much real life. Many people feel they own the place rather than letting moderators do there work.

I don't know whether ICF has become a joke, but the 'Cricket Talk' section of ICF has become goddamned boring because the same comments and arguments are repeated day in and day out. 75 per cent of energy on the site is spent in dissing Tendulkar and defending him. The other 15 percent is spent looking for new fast bowlers (which per se is not such a bad thing) and not finding them eventually. The other 10 per cent is spent on Match Threads (the best thing on ICF right now, despite India losing all and sundry) and content copied from other sites, which provide the most meaningful discussions. Maybe if we can just 'deSachinate' ourselves (and let the great/poor man be), and find some fresh, interesting topics to discuss (cricket history, magic moments in cricket, associate cricket, interesting non-Sachin comparisons, anecdotes, information about cricket grounds and support staff, team itenararies, biographies, captaincy records blah blah), this place will again become a haven for fruitful cricket discussion. And :good: to the mods, they generally do a great job and keep this space democratic; and don't issue red tapes and grandpa warnings for every act of silliness.

I thought of creating such a thread too. We are fortunate that DDDD and that scooby-doo guy do not visit this forum nowadays, otherwise ICF would have been dead by now.

How many people wouldn't mind a hardline approach from moderators? Where anything seen as derogatory, offensive, trolling is deleted and people warned (or worse)? With this there will be times when seemingly non-offensive posts will get removed. Its practically impossible to know whether any offense was meant by a poster or not, we tried to allow people that freedom of saying what they want, in hope that people will be mature enough not to indulge in mud-slinging, but that didn't work. With this anoninimity provided by the internet, anyone and everyone becomes a faceless warrior, who know there won't be many or any serious consequences to their actions. Now we can get more serious, though it may step on your 'freedom of speech' but hopefully in the long run will lead to more serious discussion...

True' date=' but those who run amok abusing posters who criticize Tendulkar don't get warned or banned. So it is almost as bad as them running this site.[/quote']Agree. Case in point Bossbhai. He should have been history long back for getting too personal and abusive. When such guys are allowed to roam free it sends wrong signals and everyone takes a cue out of it and the next thing you know it is a free for all melee.

Well should the mods act like quality control or should they maintain the decorum of the forum? Any way how can one judge the quality....the thread on Sreeshanth or Vinay Kumar for eg;is not a joke in itself because there is nothing wrong in opening a thread for our current pool of bowlers in reckoning but how much of those posts are actual credible discussion??? There are some good discussions which get derailed or some really ridiculous threads,so it would be very difficult to draw the line.

^ lol there is this one set of new posters who just end up speaking among themselves about the most offtopic things in almost any given thread. It's actually quite hilarious the way they litter the thread with the most inane posts intended only for each other. Of late, anywhere you go the same three or four people are having a discussion amongst themselves. :haha:
