Cricket is a mind game and all indian batsman think they are great against reading n playing spinners......swan wud get some wickets against India but he will also be primarily a failure.... The great Warne got a shock of his life when he saw sidhu sachin and many others hitting him like he was a club bowler Shane appreciated ashok maneria too and many indian batters

Old guy Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 You wish. raina used to play spin very well from what i remember suddenly he changed his habits..earlier on in his career he was type of batsman who could play long innings now a days in odis i dont back him to last more then 20 overs (this has been the case even before world cup )

Old guy Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 In ODIs? yes in odis but u can tell jsut by watching him bat before that he played it well and at start of career played well even against sri lanka in tests his technique or lets say approach is different now even in odis is he gr8 against spin? i dont think so

I think the main problem for him is he doesn't have a plan. The way he got out vs kiwis in the test series, once defending and once coming down the track for no reason. But I guess his problems vs pacers are far superior. With so many other batsman like Tiwary, Sharma.. Raina should be no-where near test contention again.

kubrickian Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Raina's problems - short pitch bowling, doesnt have a lot of patience to play a slow, long innings without playing too many shots , pokes outside off stump.

I think his failure against Swann was more to do with his mentality that since he stood no chance against the likes of Anderson,Broad,Bresnan in English conditions,he felt Swann was his only way out
saneindian Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Getting dropped from the test side is the best thing that could have happened for Raina. Now instead of warming the Team India bench and carrying drinks, he gets to play FC cricket for the next 45 days before the Pak ODIs, roughly some 4-5 more Ranji matches. He needs to show the hunger for scoring big if he really thinks he deserves that test spot. In his entire FC career, he has never hit more than 2 FC 100s in a domestic season. Needs to improve on that record and unless he scores heavily in FC, should never be picked for the test side.

He will average in single digits vs ENG as long as Swann is in playing XI. He will be back vs AUS and score a century! :hatsoff: I dont see any ploy. Replacing one LHB with another - as simple as that, Raina goes Yuvi IN. Raina is definately a better batsman aginst Swann than Hilfy,Siddle..co.
