A total of six Airavat multi-axle buses have been procured and will on the operate Bangalore-Chennai and Bangalore-Tirupati routes initially. KSRTC officials said the buses will also have a live TV facility with a mini television screen attached to each seat, along with ear phones and remote control. ªóe have tied up with Integration Consultancy Services and Airtel TV for the facility, said a senior official. ircraft experience Describing the service, Ashoka said travelling in multi-facility buses will give passengers the experience of an aircraft at a fare of Rs 650 to Rs 750, as compared to Rs 1,200 in a private luxury bus. For Tirupati buses, the travel fare is Rs 450 to Rs 500 and it is only Rs 50 extra compared to the existing Volvo service. Ashoka added that the buses will also have a Wi-Fi system where the passengers can pay Rs 15 and get a scratch card from the conductor to use the facility throughout the journey. The Wi-Fi service will be free for commuters for the next two months, he said. On the food service, KSRTC officials said passengers can choose the preferred food item from the menu available at counters or online while booking the tickets. «èassengers have to pay an additional price of Rs 125 for the food service and the menu includes pongal, sandwich, fruit salad, fruit juices, coffee, tea etc. Passengers are allowed to use the oven in the pantry to heat the food items, said Manjunath Prasad, MD, KSRTC. Track your bus The KSRTC is also launching a service called rack the Vehicle? wherein anybody can login to the KSRTC website and check the location of any bus on the move. «ñhe facility will be of great help to families of passengers who are at home or elsewhere. They will be assured that their beloved are safe, Ashoka said. As a part of the service, people can also send an SMS to 9243755920, to track the bus. For this, they have to type: here are you? along with the PNR number mentioned in the ticket. The officials also said for the first time in the country, KSRTC is holding a counselling on the lines of CET for recruiting drivers and driver-cum-conductors. «ñhese staff will be posted to the places based on merit and also as per their choices and options, said a senior official. DomainK Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 I want to visit the state of these buses after they're on roads for 6-10 months. That's the most difficult thing for us - maintain. The toilets would be stinking, the sandwiches would be a day old with flies all over it.

Two things , Roads & buses are very neatly maintained here . Though I hate public transport in general , I have travelled by buses thrice here in the past 2-3 months here , more than I did in 8 years in mumbai .
velu Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 I usually drive , but when i took KSRTC volvo buses last time i was really surprised. Buses are very well maintained , clean ( same with airport buses to ) and usually not crowded .. And its cheaper than autos too :two_thumbs_up:

I doubt any city in India has the efficiency of BEST buses within a city. Also, you travel in bus in Bangalore because you don't quite have other options which you do in Mumbai.

Then there were air-conditioned metroliner buses which were very comfortable, At one time I used to travel almost 25 KM daily in those buses. Never felt tired. I do not know the condition of the city buses now, though.

The buses are old , overcrowded & it stinks . Bangalore probabaly has twice the fleet for third of mumbais population , huge percentage of these being Volvo buses makes a difference as well

I dont understand why Bangaloreans crib so much about transport & traffic here . I cover 15kms everyday in not more than 40mins , infact being used to Mumbai traffic i would start 2 hrs early for work & end up reaching an hour early .

I hope you're doing an apple to apple comparison here. Comparing Bangalore's Volvo with BEST's non A/C bus wouldn't quite make sense. Anyways, difference of opinion lets leave it at that.

You see where I'm going? There are 100 types of buses in Bangalore - Big 10, Pushpak, Normal Blue, Volvo, Green, Vayu Vajra etc. - very confusing. The best bus service in Bangalore is the Vayu Vajra airport service out of all. KSRTC has a better state transport service than Mumbai's ST or BEST and that's that. Credit where due! :two_thumbs_up: Bangalore's "optional" metro service only started in the last 6 months. So, it's better to put the cards on the table. Delhi has the best at the metro in India. I doubt any other city in India is going to catch up on it due to the massive coverage and efficiency. The "other" services are the rickshaws and taxis in Mumbai. No other city including Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi ply a more efficient rickshaw & taxi service in the country. More important they are more honest and always go by meter.
