rkt.india Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Kapil Dev.. all the way. Dismissing Hadlee in the final over to seal the match was classic. They needed 11 in an over. Hadlee smashed him for 8 runs before being bowled by beauty of an yorker India won by one run. Nehra Pak needed 9, Moin Khan was batting, and still India won by 4 runs margin if I remember that match. Nehra had quite a few matches like that. Especially, in his younger days, he used to be quite good at death in bowling yorkers. 414 match is an example.
Ultimate_Game Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I still don't know why we are playing Zaheer in T20s. Yup, in T20s I would go with Irfan, Ashwin, Rahul Sharma, and one more pacer whoever it is. 7 batsmen + Pathan has to be the way to go since on SL pitches our part-timers in Raina/Yuvaj/Sehwag etc. should do well.

Other than Prabhakar, Nehra was the only other bowler who could bowl yorkers at the death.

The contenders for that slot are PK,VK,Dinda,Umesh Yadav .... Currently India is probably the only team where opposition looks to attack the main bowlers and shows more respect to part-timers

Diagree....Ajit Agarkar had a pretty good yorker in ODI's....Infact comparitively more effective as he had more pace than Prabhakar and Nehra
Ultimate_Game Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Diagree....Ajit Agarkar had a pretty good yorker in ODI's....Infact comparitively more effective as he had more pace than Prabhakar and Nehra But Agarkar bowled a hit me ball or two every over. At their peak, which isn't saying much actually, Prabhaka and Nehra could actually bowl all 6 balls in or around the yorker length, i.e. yorkers or low full tosses.
Trichromatic Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Agarkar and death bowling reminds me of that four hit by Sarwan.

Currently India is probably the only team where opposition looks to attack the main bowlers and shows more respect to part-timers I know man but that's true. Other than Ashwin none o fthe bowlers actually deserve that much respect. That's why I would rather go with 7 batsmen + Irfan. If Yuvi is in there we have one more bowler for SC conditions. Let's not play bowlers for the sake of playing when probably likes of Raina, Kohli, Yuvi & Sehwag would outbowl the specialist bowler.

That is kinda true but,Agarkar was very consistent when it came to being expensive with both new and old ball :) but from what I have seen,he had that extra pace to be more effective at the death and he was infact very good in cleaning up the tail which was our achillies heel....his record in ODI's speaks for itself.
Vilander Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Diagree....Ajit Agarkar had a pretty good yorker in ODI's....Infact comparitively more effective as he had more pace than Prabhakar and Nehra i think Agarkar and Nehra are mostly same pace. Nehra more accurate and consistent.
maniac Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 Agarkar and death bowling reminds me of that four hit by Sarwan. Well it happened to Nehra and probably to other bowlers too..... by our standards he was pretty good, had a good inswinging yorker and so was Nehra as stated by many here.
Crookbond Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Agarkar and death bowling reminds me of that four hit by Sarwan. Name your pick and I will remind you of similar instances too. :wink2:
BeautifulGame Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 People only remember that Sarwan boundary. But IIRC WI just needed 6 from that over and Agarkar only 3 from the first 5 balls.Even the last ball i think he was trying bowl another yorker but Sarwan just outsmarted him by down the wkt and taking it on the full.
Trichromatic Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Name your pick and I will remind you of similar instances too. :wink2: Nah, I can do that myself. :winky:
1983-2011 Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 is there facility on statsguru to find out about runs given in death overs and more importantly which overs are considered as death overs, is it 41-50 or 46-50

Utalk Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 From those who I have seen Nehra is the only half decent death bowler.
Khalpat Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Good death bowler is who can bowl good yorkers. And the best slow swinging yorker I have seen is from Manoj Prabhakar. For me he was the best during death overs.
