Congrats Ashwin for maiden 10 wicket haul

His bowling in India has been excellent so far, though clearly the opposition hasn't been the strongest. His batting is also important considering that Ojha, Yadav and Zaheer are almost useless with the bat (Zaheer used to be a competent tailender but in recent times his batting has disintegrated alarmingly).

Brilliant spell from him. Very useful batsman way down the order. Batted really well in Australia...he is a better Test batsman than ODIs. He plays awful shots in ODIs.

he enters at slog overs and stuff. so he has to score runs. besides 9 out of 10 times he won't get to bat. though he will win inida a couple of odis with bat too. eg in cb series against sl.

For me he's the real deal. Some of my fellow members are really harsh on him, calling him Fatwin but he's an excellent performer with the ball & pretty decent with the ball. He can develope into a very good all-rounder.Plus he's improving a bit on his fielding. Still he sucks at fielding though.

Should be difficult against England and Australia. We face a catch-22 situation against England on preparing turning pitches in Test matches due to Swann. I think he's a good enough bowler to trouble us unless attacked. Here is where I want Sehwag and Tendulkar to go for the jugular. Laxman will be missed

Please pick Swann's record. He has made his career dismissing lefties, average 20. He is mostly blunt against right handers, averaging 35+.

R. Ashwin, 43 wickets in 7 matches.A potential great That's nearly as good as Philander's record in 7 Tests. Plus his strike rate of 53 and average of 26 is tempting too. In case he performs well overseas, we do have another great in the making!

Swann is yet to average sub-30 against IND' date='SA,OZ in his career. He is a weak batting bully.[/quote'] sub-30? Except SA 2008 nearly 40 in all Pataudi 2008 - 39.5 Ashes 2009 - 40.50 Basil D Oliviera 2009-10- 31.38 Ashes 2010-11 - 39.80 Pataudi 2011 - 40.69 Basil D Oliviera 2012 - 77.00 His avg is due to bashing of Lungans, Pakis, Bangbros, WI

bhajji has had plenty of series where has had a sub 30 avg against sa , oz.

It is such a mighty relief to have a good spin bowling pair at home. Kumble's retirement created a position that Mishra started off well with and squandered big time. While Ojha was improving, Bhajji was going worse. Lets hope these two can carry on for some time.
