vvvslaxman Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Sorry, looks very fake at times Some solid actors Philip Seymour Hoffman Ewan McGregor Robert Downey junior Josh Brolin Daniel Day Lewis awesome actor.
vvvslaxman Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 ^Who would you suggest is the best then? I rate Ed Norton very highly, one of my favorite actors. Started his career with some great roles, some of choices of late have been bit disappointing though he was recently in Moonrise Kingdom which was supposed to be very good Much depends on how one defines a generation, I would have thought Depp and Di Cap are kinda the same generation ....?? there's a 12 year age gap, not huge... Pitt is probably the same kinda age as Depp...going by age Bale is a year older than Leo and Damon is 4 years older so those guys are of the same generation..Damon is more versatile...though less consistent in terms of film quality... Edward Norton, Matt Damon are couple of artists who shows remarkable consistency. They rarely provide bad movies.
maniac Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 No. Infact Martin scorsese miscast him in many movies. In some of the movies he was utterly misfit. what is eating gilbert grape' date=' basketball diaries are couple of movies i liked him. But Martin overused him.[/quote'] He was awesome in Blood Diamond too....he absolutely nailed the Zimbabwean/South african accent.
Raghav_12 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 He was awesome in Blood Diamond too....he absolutely nailed the Zimbabwean/South african accent. Blood Diamond kinda roles are bread and butter for him and come to him naturally. He can play kind of roles he played in Blood Diamond, Departed almost to perfection. But he hasn't proven himself enough in roles which are deeper, something like Clooney's in The Descendants.
The Dark Horse Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I'm surprised noone has mentioned Will Smith.
Sooda Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 ^Unfortunately he has gone too mainstreamy nowadays really does not use his considerable acting talent to good effect... I mean Hancock, MIB3... havent seen them and Im sure theyre entertaining cinema but not a great stretch of his ability Blood Diamond kinda roles are bread and butter for him and come to him naturally. He can play kind of roles he played in Blood Diamond' date=' Departed almost to perfection. But he hasn't proven himself enough in roles which are deeper, something like Clooney's in The Descendants.[/quote'] Youre right, and on the subject of Clooney- no calls for him on this thread but he is very very good too, very versatile...you can Imagine him doing a good job in films like The Departed given his performances in The American for eg..and he pulls off comedy equally adeptly...
Sooda Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Edward Norton' date=' Matt Damon are couple of artists who shows remarkable consistency. They rarely provide bad movies.[/quote'] Hm.. actually Id suggest both are less consistent than Di Cap. Norton especially has made some poor choices...Damon has been in cheesy nothingness like We Bought a Zoo- I mean its an ok film, but nothing really happens. Was expecting more from him+Johanssen... and other films which have been critically mehhed like Hereafter As for Scorcese miscasting Leo, Im not sure- The Aviator, Shutter Island and The Departed ofc all very good...not to mention Gangs of New York
Sooda Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 The acting skills required in a superhero/Sci flick is hugely underrated....Iron man will not be the same without Downey or Pirates without Depp.....The reason why we can't imagine anyone else in these roles is because how these actors added their own charisma and skills to it.... Even an already established franchise like Harry Potter had some amazing actors like Helena Bonham,Gary Oldman etc in important roles...We just don't realise what they bring in to the table What you are saying is not true....Let me give you an example....Probably there are other great actors who could have played Thakur in Sholay and it would have still been a hit but what Sanjeev Kumar brought to the table to the character is legendary....Sometimes you need a great actor to make a good role even better Totally agree, just take LOTR for instance. How awesome is Viggo Mortensen- theres another great actor... and he brings huge charisma to that role, cant imagine many actors could do that as well...reportedly both DD Lewis and Crowe were contenders for that role- I guess both would have been fantastic because theyre super actors with that charisma-but turned it down
velu Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 surprised none mentioned Ben affleck. he is very much underrated and got he is a good director too

A recent example could be the Bourne Trilogy with Matt Damon and then the Bourne Legacy without him - the movie looked sort of incomplete.

Or Salman's role in Dabbangg. Does that make SK and AK great actors too? Look, acting is clearly subjective. What you think a good performance (Downey Jr in Ironman for example) does not equate to good acting, definitely not for me. Years later Downey Jr would be remembered for his comic timing in Tropic Thunder. He will also be remembered for commercial success of Ironman, but I doubt anyone would use that as a barometer of how good an actor he is/was. :winky::winky:
akshayxyz Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 No one hasn't been, will ever be this consistent.

He makes the movie so dull without manliness. I never liked him in Departed. Shutter island was interesting because of plot ot because of Leonardo. He happened to be in some major movies of Martin. Otherwise he would have been forgotten long back. He gave life to him.

EnterTheVoid Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Christian Bale is the best actor going around at the moment.
don_corleone840 Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 Christian Bale is the best actor going around at the moment. Other then "the prestige" i dont remember any of his role in which he had to act

bihutoli Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 I think he is good. He doesn't have the face of an actor but he has done very well nevertheless. Others I think are very good include Jonny Depp, Brad Pitt, Edward Norton. Matt Damon and Benn Affleck are good as well as lead actors. However Steve Buscemi as an actor is my personal favorite.
