ravishingravi Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 What does this mean, in context to romantic relationships? One cannot make an absolute statement like this as there is no truth to it. There are countless cases where early relationships have become life long commitments, and only death has done them apart. If you are implying that death is the only truth, then yeah "nothing is permanent". There is nothing like a universal truth other than death and impermanence. Other than that, there is your truth and then there is my truth. Yes, I implied in larger sense of life and not just relationship which to me is rather small piece in the larger jigsaw. Nothing remains still. Life itself is temporary and constantly changing. I dont mean to go on Deepak Chopra mode, but when your inner state of being is dependent on an outside event, we will be swinging like a pendulum with what is happening outside. The question is not whether we can or cannot have relationships that can last through entire life. Ofcourse it can. The question is whether should you develop a stake in it and develop expectations for long term. Human life and human minds are constantly changing. The person you fell in love with need not be the person you married to for 10 years. Sometimes, relationships just get sour and break up. You can spends month and years suffering, blaming, sulking over it. Or you can just embrace the reality that nothing is permanent. Life goes on until it doesn't and there are other dimensions to explore.
EnterTheVoid Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Outstanding reply, really, nail on the head stuff. I take my oversized sombrero off to you padre
beetle Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 1)If you cared about them and are too badly hurt by their action then follow Texy's advce.Dump both the sl*ts! My best friend doesn't have a girlfriend... I don't know whats best. My judgement will definetely not be objective. 2) From the above quote it seems like you really care for your friend and would be open to forgiving him.If you ever care for a threesome then this is the time to ask for one:--DThe two cheating ****s would very likely be too guilty to refuse. This way you get to hurt this friend a bit and continue your friendship. You will probably be in a better mood to forgive too. 3) forgiving the GF is a bad idea......you don't have a long history with her and if she can cheat so early in the relationship you cannot trust her again. Anyways....don't trust this friend of yours with your future partners ever and make him feel guilty for the rest of his life. Make him pay for this.
Precambrian Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 BTW chill dude. I dont know how old u are. but once u get into a stage where your income's growth is inversly proportional to the avg time u have erections, you'll realize it really isnt worth going back to her. My ex left me for someone else (not my best friend, but I knew him as a good friend of hers), 7 years later (no less!!) she was back and begging me for forgiveness. It was sweet revenge but I could never get into a relationship with her, and most importantly I had this sweet girl, who is now all set to become my wife as well. So in short, have a big laugh, and proceed with ur life, I guarantee u, the relationship between ur best friend and ur GF isnt going to last. And your GF has been exposed well before u guys settled in (as in marriage).

Life goes on until it doesn't and there are other dimensions to explore. There is always the risk of a relationship not working out, and people change. That everyone knows. But I would disagree that one should not develop expectations for the long run. Institutions of marriage in all cultures, otherwise, won't have the tradition/necessity of having couples to take marital wows and plan for a life long commitment, till death do them apart. This is true for arranged as well as love marriages. You will not have a stable relationship with anyone if you do not develop certain expectations from your partner. Commitment towards each other, allows and empowers the couple to go through rough times even though there might be compromises and sacrifices involved. Let's not confuse this with how to deal with things when relationships go sour.
gaurav92 Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Was ur best friend male or female? :hysterical:
AGHORI Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 I think your friend is sincere, forgive him and dump your GF
bihutoli Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Some of the replies, esp Asterix, Desi Cartman etc has had me in splits. Nothing like some light banter to relieve some of the frustrations you've got, and the only people who will laugh at you in these circumstances are strangers. So well done to you to discuss your situation here dude. Your main concern should be going through the next few days/weeks, because **** happens and in the long run you will realize it and get over it.
Old guy Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 you deserve better.move on. yep move on and be thankful u didnt waste any of ur limited time in life on cheats.. dont let this think every person is like this ...stay real (ofc learn from this mistake) hopefully u will find some one who will make u forget abt this ...all the best :two_thumbs_up:
Vijay.Sharma Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 I might sound unpopular now but just know this - the character of a human being is tested in adversity. If you can find the strength to forgive them now you will be at peace for the rest of your life as far as this incident is concerned. It takes courage to forgive. More importantly, one mistake must not end an otherwise great friendship. You haven't said anything about the relationship with the girl so I can't suggest anything about that relationship. But, your friend had the courage to admit his mistake and tell you about it. Is this one mistake so grave that you lose a lifetime of friendship? Of all you know you guys might laugh about this incident later in life
